Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

That night was great. I remember worrying about reaching the minimum, and then doing it in twenty minutes.

We dam near doubled it. Each. Which was a task, since Irish Car Bombs were about $8, IIRC. It was a great night.

Karlsson was very deserving of the Norris. He had a Lidstrom-esque season for a shitty team.

Except Lidstrom plays amazing defense while contributing a lot offensively. Karlsson, as DownGoesBrown basically put it on twitter, is a player you wouldn't want on the ice in the final minutes of a game to protect a lead that Karlsson gave them.

True. I was mostly referring to his point total, and since the Norris has basically become the "best fourth forward" award... *shrug*

I don't really know what the numbers say about Karlsson, but, anecdotally, I saw more of him than I liked during the playoffs and didn't think he seemed particularly bad in his own end.

Jordan Staal has reportedly turned down a 10 year mega offer from Pittsburgh, indicating he doesn't want to extend with them. Let the trade rumors begin.

Out of curiosity, why would you offer Jordan Staal a 10-year mega deal? He's pretty good, but overrated in a Chris Drury-type way. Won the Cup at a young age, put up pretty good numbers as a third-line center playing behind two mega-stars, but isn't the kind of guy who's going to carry you to success on his own.

As a backup plan in case something happens to the other two (kinda like the past two years)?

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

We have a (the first of many) trade:

BOB goes to the Blue Jackets
Flyers get 3 picks 2012 2nd, 2012 4th, 2013 4th

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Well, he should be used to bad defense and poor leadership after his time in Philly. So, Columbus can't be much worse.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Tim Thomas waived his no-trade clause 10 days early so the Bruins are shopping him ahead of the draft. Early indications are they are after Bobby Ryan of Anaheim.

Probably as jmh said. I agree that he isn't likely to be a game changer on his own, but Pittsburgh probably thinks enough of him that they were hoping to lock him in for his prime years. I never saw any figures of what was offered, but Bob McKenzie stated it was a mega offer, whether that mega is in years or dollars wasn't specified.

10 years/$60 million

I thought he wasn't playing this season so why would anyone trade for him?

They want to get to the floor of the salary cap. Phoenix needs help getting there. Already have 17 players signed and still have $20 million to go. A $5M cap hit and they don't have to pay him a dime of real money? Perfect!

Also, there is a rumor that if Thomas goes to the right team, he may decide not to take the year off. Colorado might be a good destination for his contract. The Avalanche need to get to the floor ($24M to get there) and his new bunker is somewhere in the Rockies, so there's a marriage...

Can't imagine Anaheim's going to trade Bobby Ryan for him, though, as much as I'd love to see it.

Thomas and Phoenix seem like the perfect marriage in more ways than one. :D

Burke and Gillis were seen in serious discussion off the rink floor. Guess they were not discussing Argos - Lions.

No, they're talking Lucic, Krecji or a combo of these guys + draft picks/other prospects for Ryan. The thing with TT30's contract would only work for a team like Phoenix which will need help to get to the salary floor.

The price for Nash is Dougie Hamilton + Tyler Seguin + draft picks and Chiarelli told them to pound sand.

The Rangers may be willing to deal for Nash. The need for a top line scorer was exposed and I think NYR will be more apt to trade.
