Saw the pictures from Newark this morning. The riots there must have been staggering.

No kidding. I went to a game at the Rock at the end of the 10-11 season. I stayed at a hotel near the airport and drove into town to try and find a place for lunch. Wound up getting something from a McD drive-through and went back to the hotel. I called my wife and said I forgot one thing at home.......

Well there's your mistake. You don't stay at a hotel near Newark Airport, because there's nothing there, and you don't drive into downtown Newark, because it's crappy, especially if you don't know where you're going. You stay in the city, and you take the PATH to and from the game. Amateur. :p

The fact that you need to follow such specific guidelines to visiting the city makes NJ into an even bigger pit than I had originally thought it to be.

I don't think "stay in the city instead of in Newark" is really all that specific of a guideline. :p

If you ignore Exits 17 - 12 on the NJ Turnpike and certain other (small) sections of the State, NJ is a nice place to live, even if the taxes are up the wazoo (but now, apparently, less than Maryland).

Or even just go 20 minutes west from those exits.

(Should probably also omit everything southwest of the line from Cherry Hill to LBI.)

When you have to give detailed explanations of how to avoid the suckitude of your city/state, your city/state sucks.

If the explanation is "avoid the whole state," the whole state sucks. (See: everything between Chicago and Vegas except Denver.)

Ah yes, the classic "I'm from New York and am therefore going to be a ****" argument.

If the Rockies didn't go to Jersey, though, we wouldn't be having this argument.
And I really don't know why they did. Denver is great, and there really isn't demand for a third hockey team in the NYC area, as demonstrated by the fact that the Devils have eight fans.
