NFL 2018.1 The off season

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

I can’t say “meh” hard enough. It has literally nothing to do with the troops, America, or any such Murica boner inducing whatever.

It doesn't. But SOME of the public THINKS it does. And it's taking away from the message. IF the kneelers did their thing in another way, I think it COULD help the message they are trying to send. Right now, it's making some people shut them out, and therefore the message is being ignored.

It is easy now to forget that Ali was vilified and branded a traitor by white folks for saying and doing things for which he is held in great esteem today. He was right about many things white "patriots" did not want to hear.

Hats off to kneelers. If the message makes us uncomfortable, it probably needs to be heard. NFL needs to man up.

The same people who chant "Respect the Flag/Anthem" are the same people who sit on the couch, slouched over, and mumble about waiting for the game to start. Somehow, that's not disrespectful.

You stand only if you are there in person and it is not required but urged.

Last event I attended was NMU/Tech at the Berry. Most of the people I saw sighed, put their overpriced concessions down, and then stood. Didn't see vaulting out of their seat.

LOL.

I mean, that's exactly what they did to get here. Kapernick was originally sitting, had a good and constructive conversation with a soldier to understand where the other side was coming from, and based on that guy's compromised to kneeling as that would be more respectful while still allowing him to make a point.

Catering to the 'Murica (educated opinion: the audience that might put football ahead of God in life's important things) is my take.

'Murica can suck it. We fought the Civil War and the Civil Rights Era against 'Murica. 'Murica still thinks slavery "wasn't that bad." 'Murica honestly believes whites face greater discrimination than blacks. 'Murica can DIAF.

The NFL is going to cater to them because duh have you seen truck and beer ads? But there is no point in the rest of us trying to dumb down racial tolerance and equal rights to the third grade reading level where 'Murica might understand them, because even then they won't. Not ever.

The way to incorporate 'Murica's views into the national dialog is simple. My offer, Senator, is this. Nothing. Pass and enforce the laws and 'Murica can snarl all it wants. Their cornerstone is racism, so they don't count. They've got their guns. Come at us and see what happens.

The whole anthem at events issue is nonsense until they close down concessions for it.

Prove the issue really matters more than your $10 beer. Its of course not about the anthem. So that wont happen.

Also, on the topic of sportsing.

What if leagues kept the soft salary cap + luxury tax system. All contracts were fully guaranteed. But, 1-year was the minimum and maximum deal.

I think that would make the offseason amazing!

The players would strike for roughly 100,000 years before they signed that CBA.

Either that or Bryce Harper signs a one year contract with the Dodgers this winter for one billion dollars.

Would they tho? There is risk for both sides. Player upside is guaranteed money, and never stuck with a team.

Back in the mid-70’s, right as free agency became a thing, Charlie Finley had the idea of making players free agents every year. None of the other MLB owners would go along. They did not understand the concept. Marvin Miller later said that if the owners had proposed it, he would have had to explain to his union why they had to turn down free agency.

Who would get more on the FA market - Bryce Harper or Mookie Betts?
