NFL 2016-17: Your Fantasy Team Will Suck This Year.

Remember the MLB not letting the Mets wear NYFD hats on the 9/11 anniversary.

The leagues do not allow anything to mess with the sanctity of their merchandise contracts. Those are the raison d'etre of the leagues.
Good leagues and organizations find good loopholes to said contracts, the NFL and MLB are just pretty draconian in their views. Soccer has found good loopholes with things like captains armbands.

I can't imagine any official agreeing to work under those conditions. Your job is to make judgment calls from your limited position in space and time. The all-seeing camera eye can be nearly everywhere and everywhen. There is no way even the best official does not miss many, many calls.

The standard for an official cannot be "truth." It has to be "meets or exceeds the approximation of truth that we deem defines an adequate official."

Or to put it another way, you can rank order the officials and fire the bottom half (though I doubt that will get you much of a pool), but you can't rank them against the camera and fire them all. Or you can, but that commits you to going to an all-electronic system, which is impractical.

Basically Goodell and co. don't like refs because they cost a lot and don't bring in revenue like other elements of the game. As referee in another sport I find that attitude highly offensive. Your games aren't happening without them there and at that level you need highly competent people. Frankly I find it shocking they still won't go to full-time officials like every other major sports league.

This is the same league that wants the military to pay them to honor the military. They are a business first and foremost, that just happens to also be a sports league.

But replacement officials will be great!

The national anthem in TN today ended a little different than normal. Instead of a flyover by fighter jets they had a mixture of attack, evac and troop transport helicopters.

Re: NFL 2016-17: Your Fantasy Team Will Suck This Year.

I don't think all of the refs are that wealthy. There's a guy that works at 3M who's a ref. I remember talking to a coworker about it who knows him.

The NFL has a requirement that a ref must be financially and socially secure -- unable to be bribed or blackmailed -- so that they cannot be corrupted when officiating a game.

If the Vikings are going to run on 1st down each and every time, they better get used to 2nd and long.

Saints - 61 yard FG attempt for the win???

Wide left. Raiders win!!

Define "financially and socially secure." To be honest, by that definition, I am financially and socially secure. No debt whatsoever, permanent residence, food on the table, etc.

In USCHO league, should have started Brees, but Carr was solid too, so not much lost. Looking good with Carr, Ware, Cooks, Vikings D going. Still have Gurley left.

I'm up by 10.6, and still have Russell Wilson and Ameer Abdullah going. Doing good so far.

I'd be interested in knowing that. Besides, with the amount of money put into gambling on the NFL, what's stopping someone from just bribing the officials with more money? If someone is going to take a bribe, they'll have a price even if they're financially secure, it'll just be a higher price tag.

The funny thing is, the NFL.com summary they sent out hated my picks of Brees, Cooks and Ware. You'd be hard pressed to find a better threesome of QB, WR, and RB in any fantasy league this week. :p

This kid yelling in the background of the Giants/Cowboys game is really getting annoying. (And I don't mean Joe Buck.)

The Lions' Prater just missed the PAT. It must have been that stiff breeze inside Indy's dome.
