Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

ATL was pumping in artificial noise during games for the last two years. I don't know anything about the CLE situation.

They are accused of sending texts down to the sideline- appaerntly there's a rule against digital commuication.

Then how do the coaches on the sidelines get pictures of the formations?

Yea, that's fairly old tech anyway- fax machine-ish pictures seem ok.

But this raises an idea that I've wondered about- why not let the teams stream video? Let each team have ONE camera- like the one they use for formations- and let it play out. Instead of wasting all of that paper with showing the same movement, they can do it all on some kind of screen.

I'm also not sure why texting is not allowed- it's just communication.

For what the browns appear to be losing, it's a pretty serious rule. I just don't understand why it can't change with the tech that is available. I personally think the more communication, the better.

Their in-game advertising must not be all that effective. Microsoft Surface Pro 3, sheesh... so it's WiFi. :p

You'd think even those in the Cleveland Browns org would know about untraceable burner phones.

They don't know about football, what makes you think that they would know about anything else?

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

Skeptics would say, of course the Boston CBS station would have this story. ;)

The story comes from Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network and is posted on the NFL's website. One would assume if it was wrong, or if Roger Goodell didn't want it there, it wouldn't be there.

The accusations against Pagano and Irsay are basically cut, paste and replace of pieces written by Indianapolis reporters aimed at Belichick and Kraft.

From what i read, the Cleveland texts had nothing even at all to do with strategic play calling and game plan, just the GM after the fact questioning personnel on the field and the plays that were being run. If this were the case, I'm sure the coaches just ignored them anyway.

I wonder if the teams are allowed to have a television set on the sidelines and watch the game? Some of the replays and commentary might be really helpful to them. It would seem weird that they couldn't see what the fans see.

They see more than what we see. They have access to all of those camera feeds of the field used in a broadcast and more. The NFL is coy about saying how many more.

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

A sad day for the NFL. The great Jerry Rice has admitted to cheating. And he feels no remorse about it.

“I know this might be a little illegal, guys, but you put a little spray, a little stickum on them, to make sure that texture is a little sticky,” Rice said, laughing.

It wasn’t a little illegal, it was a lot illegal. As explained in the ESPN feature, gloves were introduced to football after the NFL decided to outlaw the stuff that guys like Fred Biletnikoff and Lester Hayes (pictured) would spread copiously on their hands, and elsewhere. Rice admitted in the feature that he enhanced the surface of gloves approved for use in the NFL with a substance that would make it easier to catch the ball.

And to think I used to consider Rice the best receiver of all-time. The innocence of my youth is gone.

Um, helloooo! He didn't play for the Patriots. So it's NOT CHEATING!!! Only the Patriots cheat!!! Don't you know that by now? Sheesh!!

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

So what you're saying is, the conversation of the thread has gone from fondling soft, smooth, leathery balls to having sticky hands?

Seems like it was inevitable, really.
