The NFL has had a few years to change that rule after the play in Chicago and they haven't. Hate the rule if you want (I do) but Dallas in no way got screwed. Sounds like they applied the rule as written.
I certainly thought it was a catch and was yelling at my TV and calling McCarthy an idiot for wasting our last timeout.
He knew the rule. I did not.
From a rule perspective you are correct, Garrett would of done the same thing if the roles were reversed, however in no way does the NFL look good or gain viewership when their rules make for an anti-climatic ending when the game was setting up for Green Bay to win or lose on an exciting final drive.
Fixed.

I agree the Hail Mary play would likely have been reversed in today's NFL.

Yep because it's a religious expression.
Btw, did the ball ever hit the ground on the Bryant no catch?
.Unless Peyton is really hurt (and maybe even if he is) that crashing sound you hear is his window slamming shut. He can't throw the ball more than twenty yards. Once we were wondering if he had enough fingers for all the rings he was going to get. Now it looks like he could be one ring removed from Dan Marino.
What is really being lost is that it was ruled a catch on the field. What does that mean? It means the refs supposedly had CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE to overturn the call. CONCLUSIVE. EVIDENCE.
