New weekly women's D-I feature

Re: New weekly women's D-I feature

Check out the new weekly D-I women's feature on the women's front page. It's a back and forth between myself and columnist Arlan Marttila on various aspects of the women's game. We're hoping that a lot of you will read it.

Well done! I look forward to reading your future discussions on coming Wednesdays.

Progress. Now we need something for D-III, too. And a way to distinguish them all in headlines on the main page. =)

Re: New weekly women's D-I feature

In case you guys hadn't seen it, this week's edition is up on the front page. Lots of things discussed, including BC and BU split, Union taking three points on a North Country trip, and Minnesota sweeping the Bulldogs.

Re: New weekly women's D-I feature

Arlan: "By season’s end, I think that Minnesota is likely to drop below Cornell, unless the Gophers avoid the losses to teams below them that they had in the first half."

Couldn't you say the same about Cornell, who had losses to Dartmouth and Mercyhurst (teams below them) that they will face again? They also have another game against Harvard (in Cambridge) which isn't a sure thing either.

Re: New weekly women's D-I feature

You may have a point. If both Minnesota ends up with 7 losses (double the current + the WCHA final) and Cornell ends up with 4 losses (twice their total), it's pretty unclear which team ends up No. 2. It may depend a lot on which teams end up in the top 12.

Another factor is that Minnesota is assured of being 3-0 against Cornell common opponents. Cornell plays Harvard at least one more time and possibly twice. If Cornell loses that game, passing Minnesota would be much tougher.

That said, I suspect Arlan is anticipating Cornell will end up with fewer than 4 losses. The next Mercyhurst game is at Cornell and the last Harvard game wasn't all that close.
