New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

NMU vs LSSU was great today. Best quality online college hockey broadcast I've watched to date. Multiple camera angles, replays, nice transitions and HD.

I do miss hearing the offair radio banter during the breaks. The finally figured out how to block that. Too bad... Dave says some funny stuff during those breaks.
I requested that. Sometimes if frustrating technical problems arise I can be a little too colorful!

Anyone try the on demand feature today. Trying to watch Tech vs Ferris this morning with no luck.
Just get a scoreboard looking screen?

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

So MTU at FSU was unwatchable after the first period...flickering, stuttering and cutting out.
That's a little harsh, I didn't think Ferris played that badly. Unless you meant the broadcast, in which case I fully agree - it was awful after halftime.

Anyone else have difficulty watching archived games? Do you get a lot of buffering, especially when skipping to later points in the game?

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

It appears to be just as much crap as last year. Half of last nights game wasn't watchable and tonight I got no video feed at all. All I got with the little play by play text boxes. Might as well start writing my partial refund letter now...just like last year.

I watched 4 games at the same time last night wtih the split screen. Only FSU was bad. The others were great. Tonight's FSU broadcast was just fine here, no issues at all.

I haven't watched anything live because we were at home last weekend, I was busy last night, and I was at the rink tonight for that not-game.

I had some interlacing issues tonight but it was completely watchable. I think you ended up I the wrong place?

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

What gets me is that there are NHL pirate sites like hockeystreams.com that give almost perfect quality and legitimate sites can't seem to match. Dial up the bandwidth for those of us with higher speed internet.

Hockey Streams doesn't produce anything, it only retransmits existing TV broadcasts of games. I wish they'd get on the college hockey bandwagon, though.

I paid the $8 for the WCHA final last year and it was great. Here's my problem with existing college hockey streaming options:

Many to most of the games are simply too low quality for the prices the leagues are charging. It's most important to get professionally produced games like ones broadcast on the regional Fox Sports affiliates, for example. Then you know you are going to get a quality product.

But too many of these schools are doing their own games on shoestring budgets with no idea of quality TV broadcasting principles. As someone said, it's like they are literally asking some player's dad to tape the game and giving him a tape recorder so he can do it.

Though I'm a NCHC fan, I wouldn't mind watching the WCHA games. I just want a quality produced product. I really hope the leagues will get around soon to improving their streaming broadcasts.

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

Apparently part of the issue this year was that Stretch specified the minimum equipment prescribed to specifically do the broadcast. Schools who bought that equipment have found that it is really not up to the task. I think that the main issue is RAM.

I don't think that I'm telling tales out of turn here.

I tried to watch parts of a couple of archived games. I did seem to have a lot more issues, than when watching live games.

That's what I thought at first so I tired logging in a couple times during the game. However each time it brought up the screen with video as the main portion and the play-by-play text in the right hand column. While the text seemed to update as it should, the video was always the spinning wheel of death and never loaded anything. I tried the video only option, video full screen, etc but nothing ever got the video to load. Based on what I've read it sounds like only the third period was worth watching for Tech fans anyway.

Or bandwidth allocated by the school's technology overlords.

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

I have not purchased yet, but am thinking about it for this weekend. Does anyone know:

1 - If it can be paused and then push play like we could last year? I think I could also catch up to live by skipping the intermission if I needed last year.

2 - How quickly on demand gets posted, I think America One posted it right after so if you were out for the evening you could watch it later that night. Last year they got faster as the season went on I think.

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

Purchased a season package last Friday and it didn't work out for me. Was unable to receive a watchable stream of any game, be it live stream or on demand. Others features didn't work for me either. Yesterday, after a couple of hours of emails back and forth about equipment (✔︎) download capacity (✔︎) software (✔︎) etc. Stretch Internet did give me a full refund.

Sorry to hear that...I was not thrilled with the video quality I got to my TV via Apple TV but I paid the media price so I'll deal with it because I'd rather have not great video than have no video...plus I'd like to see how it looks in Houghton before I make a final decision.

Re: New WCHA TV - Will it be better then the last

Anybody watch the Alaska games from Fairbanks...heard quite a few comments about LOW volume......

Yes, the volume for the play by play by Bruce was tough to hear. The goal announcements in stadium can across louder and clearer. And there were only a few of those vs AIC :)
