New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Season

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

Your website is mean and full of lies.

If you're referring to omavs.com, the part about "lies" is certainly true.

The sports information people at UNO make an unbelievable amount of mistakes. The records section of the UNO hockey press guide is a complete joke, there are so many errors in it.

Case in point. When UNO defeated North Dakota on 1-30-15, the Omaha World Herald, in a story they since corrected, said it was the first defeat of a #1 team by UNO since a 2-20-10 defeat of Miami at Miami. I called the reporter involved at the Omaha World Herald (Tony Boone) to tell him that this wasn't true as UNO had since defeated then #1 Minnesota-Duluth on 1-14-12. He got extremely disgusted since he told me that particular piece of information for his story came directly from the SID at UNO.

As he so succinctly put it (last year was Tony's first at the World Herald), "They don't even remember the last time they defeated the #1 team in the nation?"

The answer, Tony, is nope.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

We're just over two hours into the start of single game ticket sales at UNO and 2 games are already complete sell-outs and 9 other games are close to it.

I WAS able to get 2 extra seats for both nights of the North Dakota series in February!

The line at the ticket office this morning started forming at 6:30 A.M. The phones were ringing off the hook down there the whole time I was there.

Add two more games to the complete sell-out list. Those being both North Dakota games.

Maybe I am missing something, but when I called I couldn't even talk to a person and the prompts said you could not buy tickets over the phone. After trying 15 times, I just gave up as I obviously wasn't going to be getting tickets.

I was sort of like a telethon or a call center down there while I was there.

As soon as someone hung up a phone it rang, immediately, and then right into a sale to another caller. Continuous.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

Anybody using Ticketmaster to try and buy tickets to UNO home games needs to use this link and NOT the one being supplied by Mavpuck:

http://www.ticketmaster.com/search?...nebraska+omaha+hockey&q=nebraska+omaha+hockey

All the games are not even visible in the link they are providing. And, their current Twitter post about several series being sold out is not true. Only two series are sold out at this writing. The opening weekend series with Air Force and the North Dakota series.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

If anyone knows any season ticket holders who are looking to unload tickets for Saturday, home opening weekend against Air Force, let me know. I'd be going with fans of college hockey but not UNO or Air Force fans, so we won't go if people are looking to get ridiculous $ for them, but it may be my only chance to catch ANY college hockey all season, and I'm already gonna be in Omaha the next night, so figured it'd be a good chance to check out the new rink and campus (as all our other Omaha trips never went near campus).

Red Cows said he thinks there's no way to get reasonably priced tickets; I consider that a challenge!

He's not divulging what the only reliable source (currently) I know of is getting for them:

http://www.ticketexpress.com/event/...axter-arena-hockey-2015-10-24-7:07-pm-tickets

Plus, since he texted me about this earlier today, I called to ask if they were serious about the prices I saw when I looked on his behalf, then. Earlier today, the prices ranged from $655.00 per seat on the low end to $3,750.00 per seat in the club section for this specific game. No lie. I told them they were out of their godd*mn minds. Since that call, they've reverted, for "some" reason, to the numbers you now see at the link above. At that prior rate, I'd have happily sold my seats that night for what they would have apparently been willing to give me for them, which would have paid for my season tickets this season and then some, probably, pocketed the difference, and then attended EVERY other game this season with beer money in hand.

There is still a huge premium for them, though.

He can get SRO on game day at reasonable prices. Actually, the school hasn't said at what point those would be/are available, though.

SCSU Euro got a new job yesterday (in hockey--that's as far as I'll take it). It's high enough profile that divulging what it is would, without question, out his identity. Not my place to do that. If HE wants to...............

Well......................?

Ugh... I'd maybe pay $80 to go see the game, just bc it may be my only chance to see a collegiate game all year, but I know NOBODY else who would.

And I wasn't planning on announcing my new job on here, but I also know enough people on these boards that know I got it that I doubt it'll be a secret very long either way.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

Question about the new arena from an out-of-towner... are there decent hotels nearby, and how far is the new arena from the OMA airport? I've been to CLC before for a weekend series; and the Hilton Omaha proximity was just flippin awesome. We had such a great visit. I'm hoping the new rink is easy to get to as well. I would love to come back for a game

There are a few that are within walking distance of the arena. A Residence Inn and a Courtyard Marriott I believe. Not as nice as some downtown options, but it's a short drive away (less than 15 minutes from the CenturyLink). The Baxter is right by an area called Aksarben Village. It's a newly developed part of town, and if you google it you will see what kind of things are nearby. Lots of bars and restaurants right across the street. Omaha is an easy town to get around. The only problem you might have is getting tickets.

Baxter Arena is located just north of I-80 at the 72nd Street interchange in Omaha on the extreme southwest portion of UNO property(campus). You can actually see it from the interstate even though it is maybe a mile or so north of the interstate. It is right across the street from Aksarben Village:

http://aksarbenvillage.com/

Given the arena location, most locals already refer to the new arena being in Aksarben Village, since the arena proper is contiguous to it. Here are the nearest hotels:

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1...X&ved=0CF4QjGpqFQoTCL789N-5iMgCFQqcgAodAfUEQg

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1...X&ved=0CFIQjGpqFQoTCL7x_ai6iMgCFYGCDQodLgwPRw

The two hotels that are actually in Aksarben Village are the newest (and, the most expensive, I might add).

None of this anywhere near downtown. Aksarben Village is a mixed use (all brand spanking new) entertainment/business/shopping district. It has not yet reached "critical mass" but the arena will supply the impetus to turn it into even more than it already is and there is quite a bit to do down there, now. The new arena will obviate the need for a few more bars and restaurants to be down there, for sure.

The arena is easy to get to, it will just be an entirely different experience here in Omaha than it was before and, in a new place. My personal belief is that the overall experience, outside of the hockey, itself, will ultimately be improved over being at the Clink.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

Updates on several things as Baxter Arena nears completion and opening night approaches. In no particular order:

From last Friday, the ice gets painted:

In keeping with the nature of the arena's naming rights owner (a chain of local car dealerships of various makes), the arena parking lots are named for various car makes they own dealerships for here in Omaha:

Here's a recent pic from the arena webcam that depicts the just done badging of the arena as well as a reposting of the construction webcam link (live, 24 hour):

Here is the arena's brand spanking new web site:

Coach Blais told golfers at the recent UNO Blue Line Club golf outing that the team hopes to be practicing in the new arena on or about October 1st.

The NCHC announced today that UNO's first game in Baxter Arena will be broadcast on live national television relative to the league's new TV deal with them:

"Countdown video" from the school (sorta lame):

Yes, alcohol will be sold at Baxter Arena:

Note: If you want tickets to a game here this season, you need to buy them NOW, unless you want to pay scalpers prices for them down the road. Of the 15 remaining games where there are still tickets available for purchase (through Ticketmaster, the school's ticket outlet) there are under 1500 seats remaining, total, for these 15 games. Your other options are through your school, buy SRO tickets (300 per game and the school has yet to say how, when, and where these can be obtained) or on the secondary market.

C'mon, October 23rd!

Then, I will just go so far as to say that you are the new radio play-by-play man for "a hockey team" and leave it at that.

Re: New UNO Arena Construction Thread---Facility to open for the start of '15-'16 Sea

Mavpuck is reporting today that the school has scheduled the annual "pick up your season tickets party" at Baxter Arena the night of October 9th, during UNO's season opening game with the Purple Cows in Mankato, to which a large contingent of UNO fans are headed, myself included, almost every one of which is a season ticket holder and in a lot of cases, One Fund contributors (as is yours truly in each case). This apparently isn't even a watch party since the event is from 5 to 8, supposedly, and the game starts at 7 in Mankato.

The news media got wind of this tonight (most notably, KETV, the ABC affiliate here in Omaha) and I will be calling the athletic office tomorrow, first thing (and anybody it is necessary to call to voice my extreme displeasure with this) to confirm this one way or the other.

Of all the schools UNO fan is most likely to travel to on the road, Mankato is THE most likely trip they would take.

Nice arena. Amsoil architects should feel honored.

I can confirm from a personal conversation with Brian Logan at the UNO ticket office this A.M. that the school has scheduled the pick-up your season tickets event WHILE A UNO ROAD GAME IS BEING PLAYED AT THE ONE SCHOOL WITH A HOCKEY PROGRAM THAT IS THE CLOSEST TO UNO THAT OUR FANS ARE THE MOST LIKELY TO MAKE THE TRIP FOR!

Utterly outrageous.

It sounded like I blindsided the ticket office by even asking about this, judging by all the hemming and hawing they did on the phone when I got indignant about it. Told them I was calling the Chancellor's office.

Edit: and now, here is the actual letter:
