Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

So the girlfriend and I went to see "the change-up" tonight. I had heard that it was laugh out loud funny but I was surprised just how hilarious it was. It was mostly raunchy jokes and everything but I haven't laughed that loud at the theatre in a long time.

watched The Wrestler last night...meh, it was well acted, but it's always tough to watch movies where the main character continues to shoot themselves in the foot. Can understand why all the WWE fanbois who would kneel before Mick Foley loved it, though.

Probably a 7/10 (4.5/5 for being really well made, acted, etc., only 2.5/5 for personal enjoyment).

Yea it's a good movie but it's such a downer.

Rowdy Roddy Piper reportedly cried after/while watching it, due to how real it portrayed the life of a wrestler.

I don't want to say parody but when he was on it's Always Sunny in Philadelphia he played a wrestler living out of his car.

RRP will do anything for a buck, don't get me wrong, but when a guy who WAS that big in wrestling breaks down? It says something. If you even remotely liked "The Wrestler" watch "Beyond The Mat." Awesome documentary. Jake The Snake Roberts' story HAD to have been a major influence on "The Wrestler," especially in the estranged child aspect.

His mania was clearly not confined to the ring.

I think that's the second best Sunny episode of all time.

Watched "The Box". The supernatural aspect of the story didn't do anything for me. So to me the movie wasn't very good.

You mean that's not a porn movie????? ;)

Watched "Gojira" (original Godzilla, Japanese version) tonight. Beginning 1/3 = awesome. Middle 1/3 = boring, putrid, horrid. Ending 1/3 = awesome. Honestly, even at 1:40, it could have been shortened by about 20 minutes (taken from the middle). Overall, it's basically the Japanese "King Kong" (original). For that, mucho respect to the storytelling, social importance (tied into the A-Bomb, which was still fresh in the Japanese people's minds), and special effects for that time.

If you're kind of an origin buff (which I'm fast becoming), I'd definitely say watch this. I won't say it's super awesome ahhhh yeah! but it's worth watching.

I wish it was a porn movie. Then I would of only wasted 10 minutes instead of 90. :D

It was almost a Cameron Diaz double feature night, but I held off watching Knight & Day.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I watched Casino Jack a couple nights ago, with Kevin Spacey. It was a pretty good movie, not great, but it held my attention and kept me entertained. It did a good job of making politicians look pretty bad, which is probably warranted, but with Hollywood, I never know how much of it is blown out of proportion because they disagree with someone's politics. I just took the whole story as portraying all politicians and the system that is in place today rather than specific individuals.

Don't be afraid of the dark - nicely spooky atmosphere and the ending wasn't as bad as the reviewers make it out to be. The sudden show of strength by them is jarring and it could be more clear what happens to her but it adds to it being creepy.

Country Strong (disclaimer: I loved the music so that probably has an impact on what I thought about the movie)

I liked it quite a bit. It was a decent story and at the end it goes from happy ending to sad ending back to happy ending in about 5 minutes. What made the movie for me was the music the 2 female singers (Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester) were meh. Not bad but they are obviously actresses and not singers. Garrett Hedlund on the other hand is incredible. Everything he sings is great in the movie. Why this guy isn't recording records in Nashville, I don't know. He has one of the best country music voices I've heard in a long, long time. Listen to the song "Chances Are" if you don't believe me.

TCM was airing A Letter to Three Wives tonight. It was pretty good - drama with an air of mystery, plenty of drinking and arguing. Linda Darnell was hot.

TCM has been on a roll. I have recorded about 30 movies over the last month.

The problem with that station is after you watch it for a while, the rest of TV is completely unwatchable.
