Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

The Rifftrax for Roadhouse is great.

"Man, the 80s left no doubt about the fact that they were the 80s. You know, not like the 40s; the 40s should've said they were the 30s and you'd never know the difference."

"Yes, feathered hair AND a mullet. His hair came to play!"

Nice.

The wife loves Roadhouse, so it's not a Swayze aversion.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

We really should have a bad movie Saturday. Predator, Road House, Rocky IV, etc. Just have a marathon and grill and have a beer or three...

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Stallone's "Bullet To The Head" seems to want to be everything that Ahnald's "The Last Stand" is. That's what I get from the trailers and the reviews.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Predator is better than Point Break. :D ;)

If it is opposite day...Predator is great but Point Break has Keanu, Gary Busey, Anthony Kiedes AND John C. McGinley! It's brilliance cannot be measured it is its own separate level of amazing!

And Brent, there is no way Rocky 4 is a bad movie...Rocky 4 rocks! Rocky 3 is bad, Rocky 4 is epic! :)

Oh, Rocky 4 is horribly great. The montages, Dolph's....uh...dialogue I guess.....it's dreadfully entertaining!

I saw Rocky 4 in the theater opening weekend. I was 14.

Place was PACKED and at the end, the crowd went nuts. It was like you were at the fight.

Ridiculous, but fun. :)

Don't forget Under Siege. Busey and Tommy Lee Jones are just over-the-top batshat crazy and Erika Eleniak's cake scene wasn't too shabby. :)

Under Siege is an awesome bad movie!

Had a marathon today:

FUBAR: Balls To The Wall. Think Canadian Wayne's World characters. Got a few chuckles out of it. Had never heard of it, was recommended to me by a friend.
Lost In Translation: Solid movie. Really no point to it, overall, but I liked it.
Tried to watch "Irreversible" with Monica Bellucci/Vincent Cassel. Shut it off after 20 minutes due to presentation, not story. Horrible.
Escape From Alcatraz: Liked it a lot. Good flow, good acting, liked the little things in this movie.
The Bourne Legacy: Entertaining, I now understand the complaints about the ending as they are justified. Still fun, though.

My buddy has a copy and lent it to me. There are some funny parts, but it's just so very repetitive that I really wanted it to end some 20-30 minutes before it did.

Another movie he lent me was Thunderstruck. A very brief synopsis: This follows four Australian buddies who've made a pact after an AC/DC concert in 1991 that the first one of them to die will be buried next to Bon Scott. Come 12 years later, one of them dies, but they had all drifted apart. They get back together and make the trip. It's not a great movie, but it does have its moments. Some of the humor is the Aussie accents and lingo, and the other part is that from the Aussies I've met in real life, this movie seems very plausible.

Repetitive was what hindered my total enjoyment out of the movie. I agree. I looked it up on imdb afterwards, and the dialogue was all improv based on a basic plotline. That right there will cause repetitiveness.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Quick thoughts on the movies from this weekend:

Dark Shadows: some parts (mostly Barnabas' troubles adapting to modern life) were really funny, and Johnny Depp is- as usual- gifted in delivering his oddly written lines. It turns into a sort of paint by numbers film (dumb conclusion complete with dull "full circle" motif and a meaningless fight sequence) by the end, but I still enjoyed it.

MIB 3: I like that this one kept the gimmicky supporting cast to a minimum and ditched the love interest cliche. I thought it was fun, some good character humor and a few memorable brief roles for Will Arnett and Bill Hader. The ending was a little sentimental for my tastes, and its not great by any stretch of the imagination, but like Dark Shadows I was able to enjoy it for what it was.

The Grey: A lot slower and headier than I thought it would be. Liam Neeson is always awesome, but I feel like the film ended just a moment before we got the awesome badass Neeson that we know and love. Not heady/dramatic enough for me to ignore how boring it got, and its much-more-serious-than-I-expected tone didn't gibe well with its as-cartoonish-as-I-expected portrayal of wolves. Meh.

The Campaign: I didn't hate it, like I thought I would. I figured it would be as funny as it was (I liked how the baby-punching gag was repeated with a twist), but I expected to get sick of both Will Ferrell's and Zach Galanifiakis' (sp?) characters. Somehow, I didn't hate them by the end of the film and enjoyed it all the way through.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I finally saw The Hobbit...holy crap that movie was long. I wont go into a long description but I will say the good parts are very good, the bad parts are excruciating and the movie was easily 45 minutes too long. I can completely understand why the lovers think it is amazing and the haters hated it.

1. So on board with that thought.
2. Good to know about that movie.
