Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

I dont think Battleship was played for laughs or as a wink to the 80s, I think it just sucked and you guys are trying to find a reason to defend your liking a movie that sucked. Dont hide it, embrace your moment of tasteless fun, we all have crap movies that we love and this is one of yours. Dont try and pretend they knew what they were doing and it was some grand plan and you "get it" while others dont, it just makes you stupid :D

Oh Christ, Handy, get off your soapbox. Nobody is saying that. We are saying it's trash and dagnabit trash can be fun. That's not your tiresome narrative, but too bad. :D

"I hated cigarettes until I saw my first no smoking sign. Keep off the grass? Let's play soccer. The law I cared for was friendship. I broke that one too, didn't I?"

Yeah, that's Danny Aiello's line, but still, I like the movie for its corn. It seems to get panned by all the critics, though.

Poe's Law in action.

For perhaps the first time ever, I'm with Handy on this one. Kepler, YOU said EXACTLY what Handy implied you were saying in your posts about the movie. Then turn around and try to claim that "Nobody is saying that." And you wonder why no one takes your opinions seriously?

Kepler said:
I took the whole plotline to be a parody of terrible 80's movies...
The whole thing was a giant wink. I mean, making a movie out of flippin' Battleship was perhaps a clue?

You think Michael effing Bay has the visionary capabilities to create a movie like that as one big inside joke? I think the joke is on you, bud.

Now please excuse me while I go wash away my sins of agreeing with Handy. ;)

Watch three Transformers in expiation.

But if anybody is agreeing with Handy then I'll definitely restate what I meant. Battleship was fun and stupid. If Bay made it stupid on purpose, he has taken one small step to apologize to his fellow Wesleyan alums. If he made it stupid by accident, at least he entertained us.

Battleship was fun and stupid.

I bet this one is better.

Didn't someone post a picture here one time of the old battleship game box where a Father and son were playing the game at the dining room table while the Mother and daughter were in the kitchen washing dishes? Sexist or not that one made me laugh.

You want some syrup with your waffle? ;)

So against my better judgment, I finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I'm glad I did. The ending was much more rewarding than the rest of the movie. If this movie wasn't about 9/11, it would have been fantastic. But unfortunately, this was a pure Oscar fishing and exploiting 9/11...

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

I just liked it a lot because I was drunk. Do you guys need to argue about everything? :(

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

I will have to ask you all to excuse any posts I make tonight, they may be confusing, or just plain stupid. I will be turning my brain off so I can properly watch Cowboys and Aliens.

"Tonight"? ;)

The Spy would be great. Also, the bombs.

Fun fact: Mulder is playing Stratego with his sister when she is abducted.

I'm sorry but that is not a good Stratego setup. You could breeze through and get the flag with just a couple of pieces.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. Continue.

I agree completely. He buried his Scouts and didn't allow any channel for his Colonel to get to the attacker. Pim Niemeijer would not be pleased.

I love that johnnypohlfan pimpslapped Kepler with his own post that he said he never made :)

Seriously...the movie is pure brilliance! There is a better chance they were all just drunk and doing the scenes than there was a script of any kind! :)

Cowboys and Aliens...the movie you watch if you want your brain to not only shut off, but go into kill screen mode. I hope you have a lot of booze on hand because no amount of scrubbing can wash away the stink so you might as well cover it with mass quantities of booze!
