New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

Hitchcock movies are pretty good, but tend to be predictable. He was pretty much the originator of the "get 'em" scene that has long since become ubiquitous in every suspense/mystery/horror from the A list to LMN. :p

Right, but he's the originator. Pyscho is like a thousand other films but Psycho was the first.

Vertigo still holds up. I don't think anyone has recreated that one effectively.
North By Northwest is Bond before Bond. Since Bond took it to the next level North By Northwest looks old and dated.

I could go on and on.

My favorite Hitch movies:

Saboteur
Rebecca
The Lady Vanishes
Suspicion
Lifeboat
Foreign Correspondent
Rope
Notorious
Strangers on a Train
Shadow of a Doubt

No, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho, or North By Northwest? That's his best run. Dial "M" for Murder is one of my faves. And Frenzy (which should have been his last film) is really good.

I was trying to mention some early ones that are overlooked. RW, V, P, NNW and M are all great. (I personally do not care for Frenzy.)

I love it. One of the murder scenes in that movie rivals the Psycho shower scene.

Just watched Battleship. Not sure if it's the 4 glasses of Scotch flowing through my system right now, but that movie was amazing!!!!!!!!!

Did Michael Bay personally jack you off? Not that I need to know...

I have heard that if you into it expecting something awful, it is actually pretty fun. I have also heard that being drunk helps. But, when doesn't it? Other than driving, of course.

Probably, I was pretty engrossed in the movie, a lot of people could have done a lot of things to me during it.

OLD GUYS COME OUT OF NOWHERE TO FIRE UP AN OLD BATTLESHIP BEING USED AS A MUSEUM THAT FOR SOME REASON IS STILL FULLY ARMED AND OPERATIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, don't expect it to be a good movie. Its got plot holes in it big enough to hide a battleship in them.

Truthfully, what this movie really needed was to have come out in the 80's, because other than the CGI effects, its totally a cheesy 80's movie.

Like the fact that the nearest star with a habitable planet is 20 light years away, so if we sent the signal in 2006 the earliest it could have possibly gotten there would have been 2026.

They have technology that has dotted all of interstellar space with receivers and another technology of FTL signal transmission to get the trigger message back to the home planet.

There. All fixed.

I thoroughly enjoyed Battleship. It was funny-stupid, as opposed to most of Bay's movies that are depressing-stupid.

The lead female character (Brooklyn Decker) is a classic 80's "I am not a bimbo" bimbo. I took the whole plotline to be a parody of terrible 80's movies like "An Officer and a Gentleman."

Pretty much.

I did like how they brought it back to the being with the terms of his surrender at the end of the movie. Just so **** cheesy!

The whole thing was a giant wink. I mean, making a movie out of flippin' Battleship was perhaps a clue? ;)

Next up, there must be a Rock Em Sock Em robot movie. I demand it!!!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

Are you serious or not? They did that. It starred Wolverine.
It wasn't played for laughs, though. The Wolverine one seemed (from the trailer) more like a remake of the Twilight Zone episode with Lee Marvin.

I want a movie version of Stratego. Best board game ever!

The Spy would be great. Also, the bombs.

Fun fact: Mulder is playing Stratego with his sister when she is abducted.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

I dont think Battleship was played for laughs or as a wink to the 80s, I think it just sucked and you guys are trying to find a reason to defend your liking a movie that sucked. Dont hide it, embrace your moment of tasteless fun, we all have crap movies that we love and this is one of yours. Dont try and pretend they knew what they were doing and it was some grand plan and you "get it" while others dont, it just makes you stupid :D

For example, I love Howard the Duck despite it sucking hardcore. Do you think I am going to pretend that is was as stupid and lame as it was because the writers were mocking things...no it sucked because it was a cruddy comic character that had no business being in a movie with Tim Robbins and Lea Thompson...but I still love it anyways :) (funny thing is HTD the comic character actually does mock things, he breaks the 4th wall all the time and basically was a writers way of spitting on comics and characters)
