The Artist:

Great movie, although I don't think it deserved ALL the hype it got. Well done, good story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Biutiful:

Meh. Didn't hold my attention at all. Didn't give two craps about the "sympathetic" main character. Just meh.

Network:

Except for the very last couple minutes? Brilliant. Just brilliant. And the story still holds true today, if not more so. Highly recommend this one.
Edit: Who was Diane Chambers based on, for $1000, Alex? JFC, the character of Diana Christensen's personality was so similar, it was insane.

We just watched it tonight, and I thought the same thing. I'm glad I didn't see it during all the hubbub. Because now I was able to go: oh yeah, 'The Artist,' I suppose I should see that; and then really enjoyed it.

I hadn't watched many silent movies in my lifetime. Some shorts, sure, like Harold Lloyd, etc. I have only watched B&W/old time movies pretty much once I got Netflix, and I was impressed at the stylings of The Artist to mimic the same style of those old movies. Little things, like the "Hollywoodland" letters. That was cool.

Just learned today that theaters are going to be showing the Dark Knight trilogy on the 19th... Not a bad deal actually... They are asking $25 here in Chicago, and only $20 for the showing down in Myrtle Beach, SC which is where I'll be on that date... Really thinking about just doing that... Never had the chance to see Batman Begins or Dark Knight on the big screen... Just not sure if I want to sit for 8+ hours and eat an entire meal of movie theater food... I think it's worth the $7 extra to refresh yourself with the other two movies... I think it's a pretty cool idea actually...

Yeah, I think a lot of movie theaters are going to be doing that with franchise movies now. gives em more something to do to hype the movie up. Heck, I was kind of surprized that I really didn't see a whole lot of that back when they released the last Harry Potter movie.

It's really hard to find full length silents except for the epics (D. W. Griffith, Cecil B. DeMille and Abel Gance). Nobody runs them -- I assume market interest is near zero.

TCB has been running a ton of Harold Lloyd shorts lately, including some really rare ones. If any of you haven't had the pleasure, give them a try. While an acquired taste, they are definitely worth giving the chance.

I got the **** playstation to work again, thanks to the link that was posted early, thanks for that.

So I was able to watch Goon last night, and it.......was..........awesome. I agree completely with what others have said, if you go into it expecting Slapshot, you'll obviously be disappointed, but if you're just looking for an entertaining hockey movie, then you'll enjoy it. I love that they made the frenchie the giant doouchbag. :D

Two rules around here. Stay away from my Percocets. And do you have any Percocets?

[Insert cultural reference here]

[Make joke that will be outdated in three years]

[Vulgarity]

That's the one thing I'm afraid of. It's Seth McF, for Chrissake's.

And from what I've been hearing, my decision to rewatch "Valkyrie" on the HIS channel was a better choice than watching a glorified softball game.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

I was considering seeing that...until the trailers made the CGI look like a glorified Michael Bay movie.

I have no issue ith CGI when it looks good. When it looks like a second rate video game I'm out. The previews looked like Spiderman should be chilling with the Transformers.

No it hasnt. I was going to see the film because I was kind of interested in it. (mostly because my buddy is an uber Spidey freak) The previews completely turned me off. It really isnt that hard to understand. I thought the movie looked really cheesy especially the computer effects. I have now said it 3 times for the record. It has nothing to do with my dislike of Spiderman...I have never liked Spiderman but I still enjoyed the first two Raimi movies. (the third one was only trumped in suckiness by X3)

I dont know why you brought the Hulk into this the points arent even salient. I am not saying that seeing a dude climb up walls and shoot web from a slinger looks cheesy and makes no sense on screen. These are superheros that isnt the point. I am saying the cgi for everything going on around Spidey in the scenes in the previews look like I am playing Ultimate Spiderman on my old PS2. If you dont agree that is fine...but dont try and psychoanalyze me trying to find a deeper meaning, I said why I didnt have any desire to see it and that is that.

BTW my Spidey freak friend hasnt seen it either, he also thinks the effects look rather cheesy. He must jut not like Gwen Stacy ;)
It's like everything you say is wrong, it's amazing.

Majority of spiderman was plot and developing characters. It makes the prior version look like a bad joke. There's only two points where it jumped the shark and they all happened in the third act and both instances were over pretty quickly. The only major knock against it is that it's a reboot.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Have Mercy on Michael Bay's Soul, He Knows Not What He Does

How can I be wrong about not liking how the CGI looked TO ME? I never said you shouldnt like it or even that anyone had to agree with me.

I hope everyone who saw it loved it...I just dont want to because I think it looks dumb. You dont have to agree with me.

You're making the mistake of trying to make sense of something that Foxton posts.

Dr. Cox: That's a rookie mistake, and you hate to see it!

Safe House.

Entertaining, although you can spot the ending a mile away. I wish it had been more mind games (which it definitely had the potential to be) than shoot 'em up action. It's worth killing two hours for, though.
