New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Hangover 2:

Replace Vegas with Bangkok. Rinse. Repeat. But still funny.

Green Hornet:

So awesomely ridiculously awful/campy/hilarious/fun. It really tiptoes between popcorn action/full-blown parody. Grab a brew and some nachos, it's fully entertaining.

Edit: 30 Days Of Night. I shut it off just over halfway through. Boring, cliched, boring, and boring.

Revolutionary Road:

Pretty solid movie. Probably would be even better as a play (not that I'm into plays at all), as it had that "feel" to it. Very similar to "Blue Valentine," but in a different setting, and more of a middle-class set of people.

Cut me some slack, my older movie repertoire grows slowly, and I wasn't even four years old when it was released. :p

That would fall under the "I don't care what channel it's on, if I come across this movie, I ain't changing the channel" category.

I could never really get into that movie and I've tried a few times. I've never really been into the whole gangster movie genre, though.

Ray Liotta was really good. I was expecting DeNiro to have a bigger role in the film, but I felt his character didn't really show up until the second half of the movie. Pesci was Pesci, but his shtick was a good fit for the film.

Now go home and get your f*in' shinebox.

That movie had so many great quotes. And according to Henry Hill himself, the movie was 98% accurate, according to an interview with (IIRC) Howard Stern. The "Spider" story especially true.

Also, "My Blue Heaven" w/Steve Martin was a sort of sequel to Goodfellas. Yup.

Edit: the book "Wiseguy" is excellent (the book the movie was based on). MANY lines of dialogue are word-for-word from the book.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I have to ask, how is that even remotely legal?

I'm sure it has something to do with the difference between "prurient interest" and "art."

FWIW, Shakespeare's Juliet is supposed to be 13. Then again, she's also supposed to be played by a male.

So if the police could prove that some perv bought the DVD and beat off to it, could they arrest him for possessing child porn?

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

The only author I truly detested reading in HS was Shakespeare. There's no way I would ever watch one of his works in movie form.

I doubt it. I assume he could beat off to "On The Good Ship Lollipop" with impunity.

There must be precedent with movies like Blue Lagoon. "To be smut it must be utterly without redeeming social importance."

It would probably be tough to convince people that Shakespeare is "without redeeming social importance" even if it is in the form of a, probably, terrible movie made in the 21st century.
