New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

This was one of the best parts of the one indisputably good SW movie, the very first. Most space operas before it had everything in gleaming titanium, while it had sets that looked like a crappy podunk Missouri town -- even in the midst of galactic empire there was filth, boredom, and humanity's most singular marker: the Endless Sea of the Great Unwashed. Usually sci-fi reserves that for dystopias, but there it was just the way things have always been and will always be.
tESB was indisputably good sir. :)

Just noticed the Blu-Ray version of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Edition is coming out next month as well.

Anyone want to buy my DVD versions (4-5 discs each)? :) Only difference is that the movies will be in Blu-Ray. The extras will remain on DVD.

If I want to watch people walk from one place to another, I'll watch people walk down my street. :P

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I watched the chick flick rom com "Life as We Know It" last night. It was a friend's choice, and I just went along with it. It was predictable, had some funny parts, and the basis of the story wasn't nearly as bad as other similar movies. I wouldn't make an effort to see it again, but I wouldn't call it a complete waste of my time. Guys, if the wife/fiance/gf wants to watch a chick flick with you, you can do much worse than this one, but save it for that kind of occasion.

Whatever you say, Silent Bob.
Randal.

NSFW, not that I particularly care if you're checking out message boards while at work.

God that makes me laugh every time! :D (and I love LOTR)

Megamind:

What a darn good movie. I expected it to be worthwhile, maybe entertaining, and I ended up loving it. Great references to other movies/celebrities, good story, hilarious dialogue. I recommend this very much, even if you're not into animated movies (which I mostly am not).

The discussions were early but optimistic as Reeves seemed to have interest in the material but we can confirm that Reeves has officially joined Brad Pitt, James Franco and Ryan Gosling as actors who've passed on starring in AKIRA.

Hurray!

Seriously, even the anime which was free to... go big or go home, couldn't capture the scope of the novels. (6 books totalling a little over 2100 pages) if this thing ever gets produces it's just going to be dragonball evolution all over again.

And on the subject of star wars.

The Notorious Bettie Page is still a great movie. Really captures the naivete of Page, and the attitude towards provocative attitudes at the time.

This is how someone gets banned from Cannes, and probably never works in Hollywood again. I like how uncomfortable Dunst gets, fun to watch.

Into The Wild. I had no expectations about this one, but in the end was very impressed with the production. It was very well done on many levels, and to some degree poignant even if I came away feeling jaded toward the lead character.

So you liked the ending then? :D

I refuse to see that movie on principle. ;)

And squeezed in "The Tao Of Steve" today before the Preakness. Donal Logue was Seth Rogen before Rogen was a star, I swear. A lot more romcom-y than I expected, but even though you could predict the ending, it was how they got there that made it okay to watch. And it actually made me want to get back into exploring philosophy (dabbled in the general philosphies of world religions years ago, kinda faded out before I got to true philosophy like Kant, Descartes, etc), due to much of the dialogue (quotes that helped the plot develop).

The movie is awesome, but yeah the character was an idiot who I had absolutely no sympathy for. If he walks a mile down river he most likely is able to cross...or if he brings more than a bag of rice...
