You know, for repeat viewing (non-Oscar-type category), Anchorman has to be top five.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I was gonna watch The A Team tonight after the game, but I can't handle watching a movie right now. Heard Easy A was good, though.
I actually really liked that movie. Its not something that will win awards but it was very entertaining. Every Emma Stone movie I see makes me a bigger fan. She pretty much kicks *** and she's a hot redhead. Anyway, I recommend this one, easy a gets a good grade from me.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Starting to watch Easy A right now. My only expectations are to see some decent eye candy in Emma Stone.

I liked Easy A a lot. It was much better than I expected going in. I liked a lot of the little jokes that went into it. Like the song from the card popping up over and over again.

I saw the green hornet today. I thought it was a pretty sweet movie....started to drag a little bit in the middle, but the action was great and Seth Rogan was pretty hilarious.

A-Team was great. I was disappointed in the original actors' opinions on it, as I thought it was basically the same characters, just with a little more violence. I do like the backstory for the fear of flying/lack of gun use by Mr T. I'm P*ED about the van, though! Why, Parise, why?!

Also saw Inception again. A bit more clearer on the whole multi-dream thing. The first time you see it, it's a lot to take in. The second time, you get more depth out of it, fine-tuning if you will. I imagine the third time viewing it will really kick in.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

The A-Team is freaking awesome. It knows it's crazily unrealistic and plays on it. It doesn't try to be anything more than it's meant to be.

Exactly. The haters bring that up, and I want to ask if they ever saw the tv series. Oh, sure the SERIES was believable! Every episode was in fact based on a true story!

My only doubts were on the Murdock character, since he is kind of an unknown (let's face it, BA isn't a tough character to play), and he definitely met my expectations.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I watched Up In the Air again a few days ago, and I still can't get Sharon Jones' "This Land is Your Land" out of my head.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Watched "Behemoth" last night - a made for SyFy movie. We loved it. Featured the guy who plays Nathan Stark in Eureka (the SyFy show). Super-campy dialogue, decent special effects (especially having seen some other made for SyFy movies), decent acting, and a good monster (not enough screen time though).

Sidenote - It seems that people who are signed to star in SyFy tv shows also have to star in at least 1 made for SyFy movie as we saw the guy who plays Eureka's sheriff in Lake Placid 3.

Over the last few days I've watched a few movies (bold were ones that I enjoyed):

Despicable Me (I think my expectations were too high)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (loved the animation style - what the cuss!)
Jarhead (rather boring and had plot holes)
Definitely, Maybe (decent romcom; has Rachel Weisz which is always good)
A-Team (was what is was and was good at that)
The Town (solid movie though Affleck's accent seemed a little over the top to this Wisconsinite)
Toy Story 3 (solid conclusion - I assume - to the series)
The Hunted (meh, Tommy Lee Jones is good but the movie isn't)
Get Him to the Greek! (mainly for Sergio and the fight in Vegas scene)
12 Angry Men (the original - I liked the various personalities of the characters, though I kept expecting the kid to cop a plea just before the jury completely swung his way - I've seen too many new movies I guess)
The Big Bounce (always liked Owen Wilson)
Striking Distance (Bruce Willis, Sarah Jessica Parker - liked the story)
The Man (made me chuckle a few times)
Dinner for Schmucks (not as good as I thought it might be, but good nonetheless)
The Siege (solid plot although Annette Bening always seemed to look clueless)

The movie list is now down to 392.

It was much better than we had any right to expect. "That movie" has been made a thousand times before, but this version of it was solid.

(Juno was the equivalent -- a very good version of "that other movie." There are really only two high school girl movie plots.)

It was no Ice Spiders!

SyFy disaster / monster movies are awesome. Script development must involve consumption of massive amounts of alcohol.

Yes, it does seem like they have a bullpen of only about 50 actors that do all their movies. They all also appear to use the same Vancouver shooting location.

I watched Shane last night. For a "classic", it's a tremendously boring movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Really...I loved Shane.

Shane is a great movie, but it is definitely not for most modern audiences. Then again, King Lear isn't for most modern audiences.

You get out what you put in.

Saw True Grit - solid. I have not seen the John Wayne version, so I guess I will have to at some point.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Just saw The Day the Earth Stood Still on TV. Wow, that movie isn't very good, is it?

Yeah you do.

I know I mentioned this story to Bakunin, but I don't think I mentioned it here. I work with this brotha, slightly older than me, who wanted to see the new True Grit.

Me: You haven't seen the old one?!
Him: Naw, man, John Wayne? C'mon, PE [rap group Public Enemy] and sh*? I ain't seen any John Wayne movies!

:D :D :D

1. I lent it to him, he loved it.
2. For those who don't know, he was referring to a lyric in PE's hit "Fight The Power:"

"Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant ---- to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother---- him and John Wayne!"

SOH: the original? Or the new one. The original was great, for its time.
