New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I'll check it out.

I think of RomComs as something specific and in all the cases I can think of, modern (post-1980). For instance, It Happened One Night (one of the GREATEST movies in history, and possibly the greatest comedy ever made) is "romantic" and is a comedy, but it's not a RomCom, IMHO. Same with Arsenic and Old Lace, Philadelphia Story, His Girl Friday, and a dozen other classic movies that were made before studios figured out it was more profitable to treat every audience as comprised of middle schoolers with ADD.

I think an essential aspect of a RomCom is its triteness. Once in a million (or twice) it works, but usually (Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones' Diary, What Women Want, etc.) it's a formulaic opiate for sad, middle-aged haus fraus who want to pretend "it could happen to them." (It can't. They're done.)

The Apartment has some very dark elements to it, which helps make it great. And Shirley MacLaine makes for an amazing manic pixie dream girl in the film, which helps.

Saw a trailer for "The Roommate" last night. Looks like a straight to DVD/streaming, poorly made remake of SWF.

Shirley MacLaine is one of about a hundred reasons why The Trouble with Harry is so funny.

I thought Ghostbusters: The Video Game was considered the direct sequel to GB2. It had all of the real cast as voice talent and as I recall was professionally scripted.

While I agree - the link you posted is to a google search for The Wave in Arizona.

Oops!
(guess whats on MY mind 9 days away from my trip ;) )
fixed the link

I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but I remember hating the 2nd Ghostbusters.

I watched She's Out of My League yesterday. Alice Eve being really hot is all I really got out of it.

I haven't seen it but in this photo she looks 13. I understand that may be part of the appeal.

She is A 13 ;), it may be hard to believe, but her body is even better than her face.

Even though I decry this as the age of plastic boobs on a stick, I will admit that this Vargas girl rendering is very appealing:

Hasn't G3 been waiting for Bill Murray for at least a decade? Would love to see it happen but I'm not holding my breath.

Starting to watch Easy A right now. My only expectations are to see some decent eye candy in Emma Stone.

I was gonna watch The A Team tonight after the game, but I can't handle watching a movie right now. Heard Easy A was good, though.
