Biggest surprises to me are Norwich staying in front of Bowdoin and St. Thomas getting in.

I like seeing MSOE staying up in the top 10 and St. Thomas moving into the polls after a split.

If this would've been last year, they both would've dropped out after a weekend like that.

But this year the Championship is in the west ;)

Re: New Poll Predictions for 12/13

I'm beginning to think that it's more a function of the other four EW teams regressing to Utica's level of play. Other than Oswego, I've not witnessed any really good teams this season. (And no, Hobart beating OSU doesn't qualify since they had Friday night off while the Lakers were going toe-to-toe with Utica)

Why is it so ****ing hard for people like you to think that maybe the teams havent "dropped" to Utica's leval at all this season and that Utica has actually improved its play and brought it up to the teams that they have broughten the score close to or have beaten?

People have to stop making excuses for Utica's successfulness this year....its complete Bull.

I dont know about the rest of the west teams but in my opinion Elmira is not as good as they were last year.

I agree.

Elmira is just like every other team this year, their very unpredictable. They blew out Utica 6-0 at the Domes and then decided on losing some easy games or cutting some a little too close for comfort for themselves.

You just contradicted yourself. You complain about people saying the rest of the four ECAC West teams have come back to Utica and then you agree that Elmira isn't as good and call the rest of the teams unpredicatable. You're not helping your argument.

If you've actually seen each of the ECAC/W teams play this year and last, then it's pretty easy to come to the conclusion that the teams' have collectively worsened.

BTW - successfulness is usually spelled 'success', but despite your myopia, I do admire your loyalty to the Pios

I'm just trying to say that every team in and out of the EcacWest is unpredictable this season and trying to get the point across that Utica is actually improving themselves and not dropping to the level of the other teams that are getting beat by Utica this season, because its getting annoying to just keep hearing week after week how teams "must" be getting worse this season if teams like Utica are winning a few more than usual.I dont think i was contradicting myself really at all, i was merly stating that teams are unpredictable this season and that i agree to an extent of what Prez was saying.

elbojpb- If teams in the EcacWest are getting collectivly worse, this season, why are teams like M'ville & Neumann and Utica and now even Hobart getting recieving votes? Elmira was for a while too...

Re: New Poll Predictions for 12/13

As bad as Oswego played on Friday night, if Utica had any offensive prowess at all they would have won just as big as Hobart did Saturday. Utica is a tough team to solve defensively but offensively they are not that good. Outside of Coffman and Chlanda I didn't see anyone that really looked like scorers, some of the others can do some nice stickhandling in the neutral zone but they do a lot of passing and no shooting in the offensive zone.

Their game seems to be to sit back and wait for a mistake to create offense but against decent teams and goaltending that won't always work. Their goaltending looks pretty good with Smith looking a little better than Therrien. Friday Oswego shot a ton of shots way over the net on open looks, maybe part of that was the goalie and part was the funk they are in at the moment.

If Utica can find some scorers that can get it done against stronger teams they will be very tough, until then though they will be more of a nuisance than a real contender. But as we all know things get tighter in the playoffs, and they will be a tough out for sure with their strong defense and goaltending.

Number of ECAC/W teams in the top 10 in the last poll before the break
2 - 2004
2 - 2005
3 - 2006
3 - 2007
2 - 2008
1 - 2009 (#6)
1 - 2010 (#10)
See a trend?

Strong as in past years

Take away Neumanns two games against Geneseo and their NC schedule is....(11-33-5) 27% with 42%

Take away Uticas two games against Oswego and their NC schedule is....(25-49-7) 35% with 49%

Take away Manhatanvilles 1 game against Williams and their NC schedule is....(26-45-7) 37% with 43%

Take away Hobarts 1 game against Oswego and their NC schedule is....(20-27-5) 43% with 53%

Simply put, they are beating the teams they should be....not that its too hard to do....Give Hobart some credit they are playing some tough teams...Utica deserves some credit too, but take away those two games against Geneseo on Neumanns schedule and ouch. I'm not sure Buff State will be above .500 by the end of the year either....
