New Poll Predictions for 11/2

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/2

No teams will get any votes this week. Regular polls will begin on November 9th.

Ok, good offsides call. Prez was just a little ahead of the play. But now that it is 11/9, what do people think? St. Norbert and Oswego look strong. Neumann's loss to UC will probably hurt. Plattsburgh lost to Oswego, but I'm not so sure just how much that will drop them, considering it WAS Oswego and not Cortland or... Morrisville.Speaking of Morrisville, Elmira's probably on the edge of falling off, if they aren't off. Stout and Superior are definitely hurting. What do you guys think?

I agree that Stout and Superior are hurting, but I'll address Stout since I'm bias. :D

We lost the series to SNC opening weekend, it was horrid. But I don't see Stout going from #3 to out of the top 15, especially considering their injuries sustained in that first game against the Knights. Then they come back the next weekend and TRAIN ROLL two MIAC teams outscoring them 14-1 on the weekend.

SNC is a quality team and is always near the top of the conference, it's not like they lost to a Lake Forest or Northland.

With the impressive re-bound performance, I think they will hang near 9-12 on the next poll.

They have addressed their problems and are beginning to fire on all cylinders. The real measuring stick will come this weekend against St. Scholastica on the road at Mars.

Agreed on all points. I suppose you can equate Stout's losses to SNC to Plattsburgh's loss to Oswego. Both are good teams who lost to good team. Yeah, the losses hurt, but Both will remain in the poll.

I honestly see Plattsburgh somewhere in the top 5 or 6 still, and Stout, as you said, somewhere 9-12. Superior's a different story, but I can see River Falls entering the rankings. Two wins on the road at Superior for the team outside the ranks with the most point? Sounds like a good formula for a newly ranked team.

I certainly don't think that Stout will drop out of the poll after being ranked #3 and the season they had last year. However, even tho they did put up some points this past weekend, St. Thomas was only a game over .500 last year and St. Mary's was one of the worst in D-III last year with only 4 wins. As you said, they did lose their first 2, but to a very much improved SNC squad.

It should be extremely interesting to see how the Top 5 turns out this week. I'm guessing Plattsburgh will stay at #1 since they lost to a ranked team. I'll say SNC jumps up to 2. Oswego's ranked 3rd with a huge win at the Stafford. Manhattanville at 4, and then either Neumann or Adrian at 5.

I really only see two teams dropping out of the top 15: Elmira and Gustavus. Elmira's 1-1 record against Oswego pretty much cancels out. Since Oswego's win was more convincing (in terms of goals) it may even be a bit of a hit. Losing to Morrisville is a huge hit - the win doesn't cancel that out. Gustavus is 2-2. They did beat River Falls who looks real good right now, but they also lost to Augsburg and Eau-Claire, arguably the worst team in the NCHA.

River Falls definitely gets in with a great start and being the last team out. Hamline's tie with SNC may be enough to get in with only 1 loss.

I'm guessing Norwich will stay in, despite not playing a game. Is that, historically, the case? I know that Middlebury has, in the past, stayed at #1 even though they haven't played a game, but 15th is right near the cut-off point so I wasn't sure.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/2

I don't try to predict the entire poll. It's nice to see it causes discussion. I haven't checked up on this page too often, so I just read this thread from beginning to end...Just like to put a couple of my arguments in here.

First, I think that home ice has very little to do with MOST D3 teams (don't go crazy, said most, not all). Aside from the very best programs, most teams play in front of crickets. I don't think that should come into play when ranking a team.

Second, I really don't think you can keep Plattsburgh #1 because they lost to a ranked team. Doesn't that make that ranked team better than Plattsburgh? And don't give me any crap about the shot totals. A team includes the goalies, and Oswego's played better, therefore they were the better team.

Third, Its very hard to argue for or against teams that haven't played yet. Teams are all proving to be better or worse than predicted right now. And the teams that have not played still only have a prediction. I don't think you should look to hard into where to rank an idle team. They'll find their place once they begin play

I'm don't pay attention to enough teams to care about the entire ranking, but I will say this. It will just be wrong if Oswego is ranked lower than Plattsburgh. But if it happens, who cares? This means nothing in February and March
