New Poll Predictions for 11/14

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/14

They've shown an incredible ability the last couple of years to bounce back from poor opening weekend results against Oswego to do well in the following weeks.

They certainly are up against it this year with the schedule they have including the trip to the Northfield Savings Bank Tourney and the PrimeLink.

Some may say that despite opening with two losses to Oswego helps Elmira, not the loss part but just playing the high level of competition to start, they haven't lost since and usually do very well the rest of the year, much like what Oswego does with scheduling tough Non-conference opponents.

Certainly a valid argument and I agree it gives Elmira a reality check right off the bat on where they need to be at in order to compete down the road.

We'll see how much they've learned the next two weekends with a home game against Hobart and then Middlebury at the PrimeLink.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/14

Yes I was talking about Buff State lol sorry for the confusion. Platty is well established but I feel that Buff State could be a contender for the next few years, I would probably even guess they receive some votes this week with the win over Plattsburgh.

Now it makes sense :)

If Elmira goes 0-2 in the Primelink ............

Would not surprise me to see Elmira beat Midd in the Primelink opening round

You have to be fairly impressed with Buff State....My only question is...How and the heck did they lose to Potsdam and or let Potsdam even stay in the game?? Buffalo State has shown progressive increase in the dedication and discipline on the ice. I’m not sure Plattsburgh's loss is a "good" loss, but who would have thunk a loss to Buff State could be even considered a good loss. Carr is steady, but their team defense and hard work is *takes a deep breath* a treat to watch. Plattsburgh had their chances to score and or keep some real softies from going in (especially the last 2 goals), but taking away anything from the hard work Buff State showed would be a travesty. Had Buff State taken care of business against Potsdam you would be looking at a 4-1-0 team with an opening night overtime loss to once ranked Geneseo. A game in which the Bengal’s went into the Ira, were up 3-1 with 7 minutes to go in the third period, only to see the Knights tie it with .09 of a second left in the third and win it :17 seconds into the over time. The Bengal’s could very easily be 5-0-0 right now. It will be a great game Saturday when Oswego comes into town. Not yet to be a Bengal believer, but you best be on your toes and bring your A game against Buff State. It’s still weird to say that.

New poll released...as i thought might happen, I dropped St. Norbert too far and didn't raise River Falls enough.

New England College being ranked was something I missed and should have had. Nailed the top four though.

Depending on what happens in the next few weeks, we might see a potential 1 v 2 battle on 12/2 when CSC visits Norwich. For all the CSC haters that say they didn't deserve to be this high, having NEC be ranked after this weekend, when they LOST to Castleton on Friday decisively, should say something, that and the fact they have won all 4 games without the suspended Josh Harris, the leading scorer in the nation last year.

Agreed. Castleton is playing well without arguably their best returning player. Cinotti is a stud between the pipes. Dan Bell is off to a great start as is Lazorko.

The Spartans are going to be a tough out this year and now that they have a non-conference game with Plattsburgh on top of playing in the Cardinal Classic, their SOS will be stronger this year and thus strengthening their NCAA resume should they not win the ECAC East AQ.

Norwich has a tough road to hoe though to try and maintain that #1 ranking. NEC and then St. A's this weekend with the PrimeLink looming the following week are no picnics. I'd be estatic if Norwich is still unbeaten come that game.

NEC has been very good so far. A good mix of veterans and youth. I was at the Castleton game and I will tell you this...The hockey gods smiled upon Castelton. The goals Castleton scored were of the "I can't believe that went in" variety. Castleton won the first 10 minutes of the game. NEC was all over them for the rest of the game. NEC should have won the game but made some mistakes that cost them. Friday's game with Norwich should be a good indicator if NEC is worthy of staying ranked.

Absolutely. Cinotti was amazing this weekend especially after being outshot in both games and killing off some key penalties late. I don't think they are as physical as last year but their speed has increased. You can see the impact it has not having Stefan and Harris out there right now with some power plays and odd man rushes but so far Weiland, Lazorko and Bell has stepped up well.

They are still a pretty young team and there is a lot of room for growth, I just hope they continue to get better. I'm glad it isn't a goalie by committee like last year, good to have a solid keeper instead of wondering who will play in net every game.

........thought Buff State would at least get some votes. Look forward to watching them at the Adrian Invitational.
I expect they will compete very well.

I'm really excited to see the NEC/Norwich game. From what I saw on Friday, I think NEC will be a very tough team to deal with in the ECAC E all season.

Had they not loss to Potsdam the night before I think it could have been justified. I'm not sure Buff State is ready to make that jump up to the "elite" status, but it should be competitive if Carr can play well. Like I said before, they don't have the talent as some of your top 10 teams do, but they work hard. They blocked so many shots Saturday night.

Ugh, we have to play them this year in the first round at the Cardinal Classic :o

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/14

I'm sorry to disagree with most of you, but I'm just not ready to count Castleton among the really elite teams yet. They only have one big win. Ever. That was in the non-conference game at Norwich last year, and it came in the first semester. They looked horrible when it counted at the end of last season. Norwich embarrassed them in the second game, and then they didn't even make it to the league finals. I'm waiting for them to actually do something before I believe.

I personally think they will have 3 or 4 losses by the second week of January.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/14

I believe the Spartans are the real deal. They have what will turn out to be one of the best, if not the best, young goal tenders. He will carry that team a long way.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/14

Cardinal classic might quietly have the best tournament field this year outside of the PrimeLink...

As it stands now the top three teams in the Cardinal classic are better than the top three teams in the PrimeLink(unless you give extra credit to #1 Norwich, which I don't :) ). Of course you can't really count Babson as being better than Middlebury at this point, especially since Middlebury hasn't played yet. Overall you could make the argument that the Cardinal classic could have a stronger field than the PrimeLink come late December, assuming Castleton hasn't fallen out of the top ten. Which could happen with some tough conference opponents this weekend and of course the big Norwich game.

Honestly it is to early to tell anything and who knows, maybe we will all be talking about NEC as the ECAC E champs by the end of the season.
