New Poll Predictions for 1/10

Assuming Manhattanville beats Morrisville today, here's the way I see things shaking out.

NOTE: Trying to decide 4th-10th this week were the toughest guesses I've had to make while doing this prediction thread every week this season. I went back and forth for a good 30 minutes on who might fall where.

1.St. Norbert
2.Oswego
3.Manhattanville
4.Bowdoin
5.Geneseo
6.Norwich
7.Williams
8.Adrian
9.Castleton
10.Hamline
11.MSOE
12.Utica
13.Plattsburgh
14.Neumann
15.Gustavus Adolphus

Those are the picks. How about yours?

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/10

I don't want to say I told you so about Gustavus being overrated but...

I didn't doubt you. The pollsters were the ones that disagreed with you. I realized the talent that they lost from last year's squad. Martinson and Lopes were studs.

I think Bowdoin is rated much to high. They would not stand a chance against a team like Plattsburgh. Those footsteps you hear are those of Middlebury moving up

A bit. I expected them to have three wins this week and they only got one with two ties.

They are improving but they still haven't completely broken out yet. That being said, I still full well expect them to be there in the end just like every season. Just saying they really haven't done too much yet. The win at Amherst was certainly a step in the right direction though.

And I've agreed the whole season that Bowdoin was rated too high. They were rated so high because they made the NCAA's last season (albeit got blown out by Oswego 9-1) and they were a one loss Interlock team before their loss to Norwich this past weekend.

Although Bowdoin has been winning, their scores haven't been impressive to say the least and they really don't have a "good win" except for the Castleton one.

Or the sound of Middlebury facing the bottom of the pack - We will know Feb 5, if they are "really" moving up (or Jan. 23, if they are moving out).

I think Utica should be #10....They killed a cortland Team that only lost by a goal to M'ville...

Cortland probably was a lot fresher against mville. Plus traveling from rye to Utica isn't exactly a short trip. I wouldn't put too much stock in the margin of victory. You both won and thats what matters. Mville is notorious for playing down to it's opponents.

I'm sure that trip is tough, fortunately Cortland did not have to make it since Friday's game was in Cortland. That said, I don't expect to see Utica move much in the polls (unless they lose) for another two weeks until after ECAC-W play starts up again. They will either move up or move out then.

5. Geneseo
6. Adrian

11. Hamline
12. Utica
13. Plattsburgh
14. Neumann
15. Gustavus Adolphus

Speaking of studs, Geneseo's freshman pair Vit and Manley are off to an impressive start in their DIII careers: Vit (6-3, 200lbs) 9 goals, 12 assists; Manely (6-5, 240lbs) 8 goals, 8 assists. And Manley was out 4 games with a bum shoulder.

Those are some large boys. Wow. Geneseo Elmira should be a good matchup next weekend

Yea and 8 and 9 points of their stats came against the power house they call Franklin Pierce.... Both are below 1 point per game against ranked teams or top 4 SUNYAC teams....with Manley at only a 1/2 point per game against top competition....nice stats don't get me wrong, but do it what they did against FP when they play someone, and you'll have a stud...

Point taken. But if anyone does against top competition what they did against FP, it wouldn't really be top competition, would it? My point was that they have performed very admirably thus far as a pair of freshman linemates and played a major role in garnering Geneseo's current top ten ranking. And, yes, they are "large boys."

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/10

Perhaps they did that against Franklin Pierce, but the Vit/Manley/Redlick line did something no other Geneseo line could do in that game...score. Manley scored two goals against Platty, and Vit had two assists. That said, I question the depth of the Geneseo forwards after this line. Guys like Rygiel and Arduin dont impress me too much. Their defense is pretty solid though; Scagnelli is a top defenseman.

The Vit/Manley/Redlick line is one of the best lines in SUNYAC. They have had down games but on the whole I think anyone would be happy to have that line on their team. As sitcksnstones points out, Geneseo's biggest issue will be when that top line is being contained who will step up? So far this season no other line has really asserted itself as a consistent scoring threat.
