New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Exactly my point Norm. Adrian was ranked #4 because they didn't have a loss up until the weekend. I don't see how Hamline doesn't jump Elmira whose weekend was far from impressive especially if Adrian just had a bad go of it and didn't play as good as they're capable of.

Hamline is good - very good, but overcoming the MIAC vs ECAC-West legacy is a very tough task, "black and white" can, eventually, force even the die-hards to change, BUT, Hamline has their job to do and BTW, so far, they have been doing that job (St. Olaf aside which really hurt them - vs "didn't have a loss up until the weekend").

I agree that Hamline's weekend was impressive.

However, I think this weekend will be far more telling on just how impressive it actually was in comparison to Elmira's weekend.

If Adrian plays Oswego really close and better than Elmira did last weekend then Hamline's sweep of Adrian garners more respec.

However, if Oswego blows out Adrian and the Bulldogs don't give them much of a game, Elmira's 3-1 loss and the fact that they are the only team to beat the #1 team in the country this season will reign surpreme over what Hamline did.

Can't wait to finally see Adrian on Friday and make a judgement for myself. Granted, It's only one game and people like Webb, Scott, and some other western posters have seen them plenty more times.

It's an interesting predicament because they would have seen Adrian play more. However, I and anyone else that is at the Campus Center Friday would have seen them against the top team in the country.

Which argument should hold more weight?

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

The former.

Oswego could have a bad night and get blown out and vice versa. Seeing a team many times against different competition is the best way to guage their full potential and ability. It's just not easy or possible most of the time, especially when the team in question isn't near most western or eastern teams.

Certainly true.

However, are any of the teams that you guys have seen play as good as Oswego?

As is evidenced on the Potsdam thread, and almost in yesterday's (1/4/10) matchup between Northland & Bethel, nothing can be taken for granted. It is repeat performance, which is the best measuring stick. As for playing a team "as good as Oswego" - THAT can be the motivation it takes to get it done.

I don't disagree. However, for this week's poll, I think that 2 wins over the #4 team in the country are better than a 3-1 loss to the #1 team in the country and a 4-2 win over a team that hasn't won a game outside of the MCHA and lost to a 1 win team on Sunday.

Despite Elmira being the only team on the year to beat Oswego, they are still 1-2 on the season against them. Their win was only by a goal, their losses by 5 and 2. It's also not as if they beat Oswego when they were ranked #1.

Don't get me wrong, you know I hate Elmira (because of and to pi$s you off), but I know they're a good team. I just think that Hamline had a more impressive weekend and therefore they deserve to be ranked above Elmira this week. If what you have said above comes true (Adrian gets blown out and Elmira plays well and/or wins against Plattsburgh) I will re-think my position.

Well Potsdam had a more impressive weekend than Adrian. So should they be ranked higher than Adrian? After all, we are talking about this week's poll....

Potsdam also didn't have any votes last week whereas Hamline was ranked and has a much better record. And I would argue they didn't have a better week than Hamline, just more surprising since no one expected them to play well enough to tie Norwich. But, that's beside the point.

I'm operating under the assumption you were being sarcastic, but I still had to prove my point.

I didn't say they had a better week than Hamline...Potsdam had a better week than Adrian....so Potsdam should be ranked higher than Adrian in this week's poll according to your theory about Elmira should be ranked higher than Hamline...

Ah, definitely missed the part about Adrian. It was only right in front of me.

Anyways, take out Hamline and put in Adrian in the first sentence and it still applies. Not the 2nd part tho, obviously.

So are you saying that Potsdam's win vs NEC and tie vs Norwich was less impressive than Adrian losing (badly) twice to Hamline?

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Uhhh, the first one was a one-goal game. The second one was bad.

No. Just that Potsdam clearly doesn't deserve to be ranked above Adrian. Yet.

All I'm trying to say is that your argument for why Hamline should be ranked higher than Elmira is a bad argument because you argument is based upon one weekend. Should Hamline be ranked higher than Elmira? I don't know, but you can't have a knee-jerk reaction to one weekend..

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Well, assuming that I read the schedule properly, Hamline does play St. Scholastica this Friday, so Hamline will have another opportunity be able to account for themselves again.

My argument was based on the fact that Hamline was ranked and has a similar record. I assumed most people would get that.

UNE also had a better weekend than Adrian I guess since they got their first win of the season, but clearly they don't deserve to be ranked above Adrian. Same with Potsdam. That's why neither Potsdam nor UNE got any votes.

Should read...

I just think Hamline had a more impressive weekend and have a better season-long resume and therefore they deserve to be ranked above Elmira this week.

I'll be sure to infer that the posters on these boards have no common sense and spell every little thing out so no one gets confused anymore.

So just to be clear, even though UNE and Potsdam got wins this weekend and Adrian lost twice, I do NOT think they should be ranked above Adrian. Perhaps next week...

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Norwich's win over Plattsburgh, 4-1, will be turning some heads this week. It was an awesome game, well played and the ultimate competition. It will all depend on how both teams finish the week. We'll see:rolleyes:
