Honestly, flip Elmira and Middlebury, and I have to agree with this. It'll be interesting to see how the first place votes fall. Adrian loses their 2, Norwich probably loses 1 or both of their 2. Do they all go to Oswego? Does Plattsburgh pick some back up? Does St. Norbert get their first place vote from december, and do they pick any up? Like I said, it's going to be interesting.

They should go to Platty or Oswego...Do the voters value Oswego's win over a top ten team or Platty's two dominating wins more? I think that's basically what it comes down to.

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

My thoughts:

1.Oswego
2.Plattsburgh
3.Norwich
4.St. Norbert
5.St. Scholastica
6.Hamline
7.Elmira
8.Middlebury
9.Williams
10.Gustavus Adolphus
11.Adrian
12.River Falls
13.Superior
14.Salem State
15.Amherst

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

I think you will see it given to Oswego, but if Plattsburgh puts down Elmira you could very well see more 1st place votes go to Plattsburgh.

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Plattsburgh's wins were impressive (scoring wise, margin of victory etc.) but neither of them came against the #6 ranked team in the nation.

Oswego should pick up the first place votes.

Plattsburgh however has a chance to steal some back though if they sweep Norwich and Elmira, which would be an impressive week especially with both being on the road.

IF, big IF, Plattsburgh does sweep you could see a tie for first....especially if Adrian pulls the upset...

As impressive as they would be, I don't see Plattsburgh's winning both games as meriting placement either alongside or above Oswego without the second qualifier in your post coming to pass as well. If Adrian takes down Oswego, then fine; if Oswego wins that matchup, then they still own a better record than Plattsburgh and a solid head-to-head win, both regardless of what Plattsburgh does. I don't see the logic in giving anyone but them the #1 nod in that case.

5-7 only separated by 3 points. Although I still don't understand how beating MSOE by 2 and losing by the same margin to Oswego is more impressive than beating Adrian twice.

It's not...but I guess rankings should only be based on the most recent weeked?

Beating Adrian twice, back to back, and substantially - could lead some to suspect that Adrian for whatever reasons just had a bad weekend, not indicative of their actual potential. Note, IMO, the "reasons", include possibly just being to overconfident:eek: and then pressured :o ).

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

I thought possibly that Potsdam might get a vote or two after tying Norwich and beating New England College, especially after tying Plattsburgh at the end of the semester?

I see Fredonia gets a vote, sure they have a better record but what did they do? Also, four of those wins are vs Lebanon Valley and Johnson and Wales. I guess maybe because they hold a win vs Potsdam calls for not votes for them? Still, Potsdam has ties vs high ranked teams.

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

One has to wonder how in the world Norwich received a 1st place vote. That's got to be heart over brain. Nothing particularly against a good team of Cadets, but really! :D

I know Oswego needed some late goals against Fredonia, but still won what 7-4? Plattsburgh dominated winning 10-2.....having seen both teams (Potsdam/Fredonia) I think you will see Potsdam higher up in the standings...and I don't care about the H-2-H one goal loss....I think you will see Fredonia go on their normal 2nd semester swoon, and Potsdam will grab a few extra points (hopefully Oswego) :) Still I don't think either are in the same zone as Plattsburgh/Oswego....yet.....

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

I really don't get the votes for Superior...last place in the NCHA...no good wins.

I considered putting Potsdam in at 15, but decided to wait to see how they do this weekend against Neumann.

Re: New Poll Predictions - 1/4/10

Norm: or maybe hamline's just a pretty good team.

If they sweep (definitely not an easy task) this weekend, they've got to be in the discussion for the top seed in the west, if they're not already in that discussion.

Absolutely, any time a lower seed beats a higher seed, they are, along with anything else, "a pretty good team". As for going as far as "the top seed in the west", they do have an SOS issue, especially but up against St. Norbert (NCHA - .808 overall w/55GF-23GA vs MIAC - .818 2/43GF-23GA), BUT, Hamline is doing what they can, and have to, to make the statement that they are "the top seed in the west", keep it up and a stumble by St. Norbert, and it could be theirs.

Exactly my point Norm. Adrian was ranked #4 because they didn't have a loss up until the weekend. I don't see how Hamline doesn't jump Elmira whose weekend was far from impressive especially if Adrian just had a bad go of it and didn't play as good as they're capable of.
