New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

you lose all credibility with that last comment:eek:
It was for 40 minutes. UNH spent a lot of time chasing Eagles around the ice. OT was pretty close too. Clap on, clap off.
I don't think Jerry will call the dogs off starting next week. JMO.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

I really think tonight is a non-plus. Both York and Umile want to win, naturally, but with both teams locked into their playoff seedings, I expect neither views this as a "win at all costs" game. Look for them to coach the game as it unfolds and for one (or both) to not do anything rash at all in this game and play the 3rd and 4th lines a lot as the game gets into the later stages of the 2nd and then 3rd periods.

If it is close, UNH might try to push a bit for that W (if it is a possibility) for the PWR help, but there will be many PWR changes in the next two weeks with plenty of opportunities to move up in the rankings due to the competition level.

I have to agree I don't think either coach will approach this as a must win, will approach it as a like to win. Both have been around long enough to know that the must wins start next weekend. A win tonight would be nice in the long run for the PWR, but as been mentioned that will change so much in the next couple of weeks. I think both teams would like to feel like they could beat the other team, and do have something to prove. UNH would like to prove they can play a 60 minute game against BC with BC looking to prove they can hold the Cats off in the 3rd. But to say that this is a must win is a little ridiculous. Both teams will be playing at home next weekend, and both are pretty much in the NCAA tourney. If one team wins tonight and turns around and gets swept next weekend, what does tonight really mean?
From a UNH stance I would like to see a solid 60 minute effort and see what the results will be. I would love to have a win tonight, but not going to overly disappointed if they play a hard game and come up short. Will be interesting to see how both teams come out tonight, does BC have a little bit of a hangover from the 3rd period last night, will UNH have a little bit of a let down after getting the regular season title. I do except some solid hitting tonight and a close game.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

Wow, for two periods last night, BC was the best team in Hockey East. There is no quit in this UNH team, though. Looked like BC was back on their heels for much of the third. Turned the puck over right around the net a couple of times, that almost led to a go-ahead goal.

i think it is on BC tonight. a tie and a loss or 2 ties, what ever , is not the way to go into the post season especially after this nice run.
I'd agree, except that the Quarterfinals are the perfect time for BC to build that momentum. 2 wins against the #7 team, then on to the Garden for single elimination (i.e. NCAA warm-ups).

The only thing on the line for either team is PWR, and as noted, it's not extremely urgent for the 'Cats.

but let's say unh loses tonight but faces bc again in the semis or the final and wins, wouldn't that nullify a bc win tonight?
UNH will not face BC in the semis.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

However, I am not convinced UNH can or will beat BC on the big stage(NCAA's).

i love these bold assertions.

at this point i really don't think unh is afraid to play anyone. don't get me wrong i think bc is good, very good. the bc players probably respect unh more after succoming to two late surges would be my guess though.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

Also, I got like 8 million texts during the game from people telling me that I was on NESN a bunch of times with my trumpet. Also TC supposedly said "It's very quiet here, except for the BC trumpet guy."

:D:p

Just like Freak, I'm surprised they let you play the whole game -- but good on you for trying, and getting away with it. It is frustrating that he wouldn't be able to do that in other arenas.

Haven't watched the game yet, but I'm sure you were on NESN a bunch of times . . . right up until 3:55 left in the game. UNH had fans had nothing to cheer for, until the 3rd period, so of course it was quiet. That certainly changed, though; credit to the BC fans for trying to make noise after their teams collapsed in the last frame against UNH again. The other thing I've noticed from watching NESN games is how terrible the crowd always sounds; their sound guys don't give much volume to the audience, regardless of how loud they actually are.

Tonight: BC wins 10-0 after UNH drinks until 12noon; Scott gets the start in goal for the 'Cats. Other scenario: neither team wants to take a two goal lead for fear of losing it, so the final score is 10-10, as York tells Milner/Muse "let 'em in the game". :D

The story is always the same for me at every arena. I never ask to play and just bring the trumpet. Then I'll play after our first goal (God willing...).

Then, one of two things happens:

1) Nothing. I play after all our goals, all is well.
2) Someone sprints up to me telling me that if I don't stop I'll be kicked out of the arena. I stop playing until a) the end of the game or b) we score in the last 90 seconds. Then I play the fight song again. What are they going to do, kick me out? :p

Schools where no one has said a word to me: BU, Harvard, NU, PC, UML, UNH, UVM
Schools where someone saw me, told me they were going to check for me, and then gave me permission: Maine
Schools that told me I can't play (but I do anyway at the end): UMass

Haven't been to Mack...missed that one this year, and haven't gone in the past. :(

I was also told I couldn't play at Conte by the TeamOps Storm Troopers, but I kept asking for the supervisor of whoever told me no until I found the person who has the authority to give me permission. Then I was aloud to play.

Point A: Noticed the kid with the trumpet, but I thought I was seeing things. Much credit to you for bringing it to the Whitt, but yes...a shame that TeamOps (a Kraft Family company) flips out when we bring stuff to BC. Que sera sera.

Point B: Nothing to drink about...a tie is a tie is a tie. Yes we have the regular season title, but there's still a lot of work to be done. UNH skates at 75% for 60 minutes, but BC takes the win and the reg. season series with UNH: 4-3

Point C: We don't have a goalie named Stuart, but there is a Scott. He might start, but DiGirolamo is more likely to be in net. I also expect to see a lot of freshmen and sophomores. I'd expect Blake Kessel to see very little, if any, ice time given the injury he took last night...no taking chances.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

I know this goes back a few pages, but....

BC has a beautiful campus. I guess if you live in Lynn the bar has been set so high that everything else pales in comparison. ;) :p

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

they are just as bad if not worse to team families. and by that I mean the BC fams. you can find out yourself if you want to wait for autographs with your young child.. they herd everyone across an imaginary line because of "security issues."

yeah, the family of one of your scholarship athletes is going to do something to hurt the precious arena. yeesh

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

i'm still not convinced are you?

which team is the pressure on tonight?

Convinced? No, but I still think BC is a better team. Two games up at UNH in which BC hasn't trailed. Full credit to UNH for coming back. There is pressure on both teams tonight for PWR implications.

it looks like UNH's top gear is as good if not better than BC's

Not sure about this, but am looking forward to seeing UNH in person and on the road. BC has been very good at home.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

BC's second was a good goal. Very clear the puck was coming back out of the net when the whistle can be heard. Of course light travels much faster than sound, so you saw the goal way before you heard the whistle, when in fact in real time he may have actually blown the whistle before the puck crossed the goal line...

Sounds like you're refuting your own argument AC. Also sounds like you watched on TV where others have indicated there seemed to be an audio/video synchronization issue. No question live that the whistle came before the puck was in. Given the speed of sound vs. light point you raise, it may have occurred before the shot. Anyway, inexplicable bad call by refs - shocking:eek:

I'm surprised to see UML and UVM on there. I was approached at UVM during starting lineups and told that I wouldn't be allowed to play the bell. And the Tstormtroopers at Lowell are notoriously strict.

At least UMA is consistent. You can't do anything there.

I don't mind allowing other fans to do that kind of stuff. I didn't like that the school allowed BC to bring their band to the Quarters last year, but speaking as a guy who plays the cowbell in any rink he's allowed, I think individual fans bringing instruments is fine.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

BTW, I dvred Friday's game. Lombardi's goal came before the whistle.
Everyone here agrees that on film it was in before the whistle. Most of us at the game think that NESN may have had an A/V timing issue.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - March 5/6

This was a fun series to watch and hopefully we get one more at the HE final in a few weeks. Kessel is a player and think he'll do well if he stays at UNH all four years. Foster stood on his head last night. That game could easily have been 7-2 BC if he didn't play as well as he did.
