  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

New format fixes and workarounds

Why am I getting notifications now that I didn't before? When I went into settings for notifications I have nothing checked that notify me just becuase someone else posted in a subscribed thread.

Did you go to Notifications --> Notifications Settings and nuke everything? I did this and am waiting to see if it works.

It is probably not a good sign that every feature is improved by reversing the default setting.

Yes. It's probably because your userid autopopulates into the first email field. Overwrite it with your email, repeat it in the next field, and it worked for me. However you have to do this EVERY TIME you visit that page, which is getting really old really fast. :-(

You can just delete the id. You dont need anything in those fields unless you plan to add a different email to your account.

Mark This Channel Read brings all the threads up to date and wipes all the Notifications. Not sure if the problems won't just start to accumulate again though.

Thanks. But does it stay wiped between visits to Settings? I don't think so. Reset might.

No it is the same thing every time I go it is there so I delete it. I have no idea why it is populating.

About this time last year another board I was on made a very similar change to this same set up. Those posters are way more over the top (like USCHO was circa 2003) and it was a mess. Their admins knew that though so they had the mods start threads in all the main areas to report issues and ask questions. (like this only board would need to be in here explaining stuff to us) Kept the rioting to a minimum and a week later it was mostly good natured ribbing.

The problem is the crap ass bare bones vbulletin has little to no features. It solves a ton of them (posting pictures is 1000000000 times easier) but unless you add the modification scripts or enable aspects of the board it causes headaches. For example Twitter and emoticons. The cosmetic stuff people can usually get past but when they are used to opening a thread and it going to the first new post and now it could end up anywhere it is frustrating and annoying. People want to hear that admins know that and are fixing the issue or have plans too. Some of the issues are as easy as enabling the aspect of the board (which they may not want to do yet for a variety of reasons) but some of them, at least on the other board, required more down time.

tl;dr:

This ugly format is still here? It makes me not want to come here anymore, its ugly, not user friendly, and generally just a pain in the ass to deal with.

Any "improvements" to a site should be to maximize the user experiencenice, not the site owners'.

I have the dim recollection that in an early upgrade, vBulletin used a set of rather poor smileys. Board changed them to the set we were familiar with. I suspect that that change is now causing problems.

Anyone have a fix to make the swooshy puck logo with the star look less like the New England Patriots logo?

Thanks,

I am a big fan of the ability to change through various themes. I am not a fan of the fact that it doesnt actually change the theme when you do it.

AND FFS STOP ALWAYS OPENING UP TO PAGE 1 OF THIS THREAD! I have tried every workaround there is and at best it fixes it until you re-open the page later on. This shit aint hard.

Remember back in the day when they used the test server for crap like this so by the time it is rolled out at least people know what they are in for? You can get away with it looking like crap but functioning great (and vice versa) but when it both looks and runs like crap you dun phucked up.

Is there a waty to reply to the thread without having to scroll all the way to the top or bottom for the 'reply' tab? When reading individual posts, all I see is the 'like' button, or the option to quote it in the reply. We need a reply button without quoting, like the old forum had.

I’m not having the issue where it keep going to page 1 of the thread. Not sure what settings I have but that hasn’t been an issue for me.

So.... some constructive criticism. Any chance we can get rid of the "Share" and "Tweet" buttons from the left side of each post (when viewed on PC)?

*edit* And more than 10 topics on a page.
