New England Girls Prep School 2010-2011

Re: New England Girls Prep School 2010-2011

With one week to go, here's my unofficial math on the Prep rankings. While most teams only have one of two games remaining, certain results could have a significant impact for some teams, particularly if there is a change in teams who have or no longer have a record of .500 or greater since this then effects the ranking scores of all teams who played them.

See further below for an explanation of ranking types. Questions welcome!

Rank Type: ... A ... B ... C ... D ...... E
Westminster... 1 ... 1 ... 1 ... 1.00 ... 1
Nobles........ 2 ... 2 ... 3 ... 2.33 ... 2
Choate........ 4 ... 4 ... 2 ... 3.33 ... 3
Lawrence...... 3 ... 3 ... 5 ... 3.67 ... 4
Brewster...... 5 ... 7 ... 6 ... 6.00 ... 5
Tabor......... 7 ... 6 ... 7 ... 6.67 ... 6
Berkshire..... 8 ... 8 ... 4 ... 6.67 ... 6
Winchendon.... 6 ... 5 .. 11 ... 7.33 ... 8
Loomis........ 9 ... 9 ... 8 ... 8.67 ... 9
Hotchkiss .... 10 .. 10 . 10 .. 10.00 .. 10
Williston..... 11 .. 12 .. 9 .. 10.67 .. 11
Pomfret....... 12 .. 11 . 11 .. 11.33 .. 12

Rank Types:

A) Rank based on Overall record in NEPSAC games, including Division 1 and Division 2, but excluding games with Gilmour Academy, NEWHL, NAHA, Northwood, Polar Bears or any team that is not a member of NEPSAC.

B) Rank based on Record against NEPSAC Divison 1 opponents, including each occurence of games played against the same team a second or third time during the season.

C) Rank based on record against teams with a Division 1 Record of .500 or better. The raw result of this winning percentage becomes weighted based on the overall number of Division 1 games played.

D) Average rank - a simple average of the previous three ranks

E) Final rank based on average rank

Top 8 teams advance, top four teams will play host in the quarterfinals subject to the two and half hour travel rule, otherwise a neutral site will be provided.

What a tilt in Dedham last night! End to end action from the drop of the puck. Nobles controlling the play in spurts but Gov's holding the advantage in shots on net and quality scoring chances. Not even an extra 5 minutes could break the 0-0 tie. Kudos to the Gov's conditioning as their shorter bench did not seem to tire at all. I'm not sure if Ms Carpenter ever came off the ice! Terrific goaltending at both ends.

Okay, here's my final unofficial rankings for the Prep season. If I am right, then congrats to Winchendon for their first D1 post season appearance!

So if I am correct, the pairings will be as follows:

Winchendon @ Westminster
Brewster @ Nobles
Tabor @ Lawrence
Berkshire @ Choate

Results should be formally decided early Sunday afternoon, and we'll see how close I came.

Re: New England Girls Prep School 2010-2011

Middlesex 3 St. Georges 0 the USHR has it backwards....

Ok USHR has corrected their mistake...

D2 should line up:

1. Govs
2. Canterbury
3. Rivers
4. Southfield/Middlesex
5. Middlesex/Southfield
6. Millbrook
7. Proctor
8. Thayer

Okay, it happened again... second time in this calendar year... I was wrong!

I was close however....here's the D-1 lineup:

Westminster (1) v. Loomis (8)
Nobles (2) v. Brewster (7)
Choate (3) v. Tabor (6)
Lawrence (4) v. Berkshire (5)

I had LA and Choate tied, with LA winning the tiebreaker, so that was incorrect, then..... apparently Loomis snuck ahead of Winchendon.

I'm pretty sure of my formula, however there are two things I forgot to consider. Hotchkiss by winning their last game once again became a team with a .500 record, and so everyone who played them now has that game counting in rank C. I fogot to adjust for this last night. The second possible difference between mine and the official could be games that were played but not reported on USHR....makeup games, conflicted results, that sort of thing.

Of course the third reason could just be manual error, but..... nahhh, not putting any stock in that. :p

Congrats to all seniors on their Prep career, and best of luck to all playoff teams, D-1 and D-2.

PS... Go Seawolves!!!

Re: New England Girls Prep School 2010-2011

I monitor the USHR web page, and like you I manually keep the rankings.
I had Choate & Loomis tied, Choate winning in the head to head for 3rd.
For 8th I had Loomis & Williston tied for 8th, but again the head to head favored Loomis.
This is unofficial, just my tracking, but it proved to be accurate.

Regarding D2, the Boston Globe reported the wrong score on the St Georges/Middlesex game yesterday.
It was late last night, and neither school reported, so that's what went in.
It was corrected this morning when someone complained.
I wish more parents would give me scores or tell me when something is wrong.

I had for myself the correct final 8 for D2, but am still missing the score for the Millbrook KO game on sat.
It changed my positioning for 6 & 7, but otherwise I was good.

All of you parents and players, for next year, you want your kids scores/stats up on line (like the boys do), tell us and we'll post them.
We always ask for team reps, and some schools do, but most don't.
