New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Should be a good test for the Engineers, even though the game won't count as an official NCAA game.

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

A very BIG test. UNB is undefeated and has enough games under it's belt to have all the kinks worked out. I do not expect us to be in mid season form by any means. If we can hold our own against this very good, big, mature team at this early stage of the season, then we may well be one of the teams to be reckoned with in the East. The more telling games will be this weekend against CC. Let's Go Red!!

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Is anyone still having problems with the songs starting automatically?

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Will RPITV be broadcasting the game tonight live?

RHamilton has written that B2 won't allow them to broadcast live on the net this year. I doubt that the fact that this is an exhibition game will make a difference, but hopefully he will tell us for certain.

yes.

As for the game, since it is an exhibition, can we assume that the goalies will get time in net?
Also, is there any limit on how many skaters can dress for an exhibition game?

I don't know if there is a limit, but in the past we have dressed one or two extra.

Tonight's game will be broadcast on B2 (or actually, America One, B2 was recently bought out).

I am discussing streaming with Kevin Beattie today, so there's a small possibility that we'll end up streaming free since it's an exhibition, but I'm not very hopeful so I wouldn't count on it.

You better not since I shelled out the $75 yesterday. :D

So they went from B2 to A1. I doubt that the product has improved. :p

May still be worth it, as now they list the CC games this weekend. Plus a number of others that were not included with the B2 subscription. :D

RPI is under no obligation to do what other schools did, but for what it's worth, both UMass and UVM played their starting goalie for two periods and then put in a substitute for the third. (Actually, UVM played a second goalie for about 12 minutes and then a third goalie for the remainder.)

UNB had the starting goalie go all the way in each game, though the same goalie did not start both games. Fullerton started the first of the two, so RPI will probably see him tonight unless UNB has a third goalie that their coach wants to see in action.

UNB doesn't have a third goalie. Most CIS schools don't. They often have a third string goalie playing intermurals or rec. hockey for "emergency recall" if one of their two starters gets hurt. This happened to StFX after Christmas last year.

I would expect you would see Travis Fullerton tonight, as the UNB coach often (but not always) likes to alternate his two goalies until Christmas, and then pick his go-to goalie for the stretch. Then his motto is "you win, you're in".

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Good evening, everyone. Just a reminder, you can chat real-time about the RPI/UNB game tonight at Without a Peer: New Brunswick In-Game Chat.

This is the first game of our test run - if people like this feature and use it, we'll keep it. If not, we'll junk it.

UNB's weak link may be defence. Two of their top-4 d-men are gone for awhile; Ben Shutron (CIS All Rookie Team last year) is gone for the season with a broken femur and Ben Wright until Christmas with a knee injury. Compounding this, their 5th d-man, 6'5" Josh Kidd who has been stepping up his play in their absence, didn't make the trip due to an injury (we think!). So they've got playing assistant coach Steve Pearce in the line-up on defence.

It isn't all a tale of woe. UNB had the best defence in the CIS last season, and are still led by All-Canadian Luke Gallant, smooth Bretton Stamler, fearless Jonathan Harty and hard as nails Brent Corcoran. Utility fifth-year LW/C/RW/D Josh Hepditch will be playing defence all season it looks like now.

All understood-if I was a bookie, I would still make UNB the favorite tonight-I don't think there is any thing more important than experience (perhaps maybe pure talent) and this team has many more mature players and has had 7 games already this year to get into a rhythm. I am a dyed in the wool RPI follower and fan-but even with rose colored glasses on-tonight will be a difficult chore.:)

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Definitely looking like it's going to be a nice, quick, up-and-down the ice game!

For those headed to the game (yes, I realize that most of you have already left), I'll be in an away jersey with my Mets hat on either Section 15 or 33. Stop by and say hi.
