New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

Re: New Brunswick at RPI, 10/5/10

I agree that they haven't had much success. It's a start though that there were no shorthanders scored on the 5 v 3. It is something to work on yes, but, I would be more concerned with the mental errors, because, scrimmage or no, those are ALOT harder to fix.

Now thats something I can agree with. Mental errors by forwards up front I can live with. But mental errors by defensemen usually mean a goal against. Tonight we made a few mistakes on defense. I hope this is just first night jitters.

Have followed RPI now for years but have never posted before; but I must agree with Dr. D. -- former goalies just don't make qualified head coaches. They simply do not understand the play outside the net.

Not a particularly exhilarating result, but I'd go along with saying it wasn't all that terribly bad for a team playing its first game against what was clearly a solid opponent.

Bergin's goal was a power play goal, is that correct?

If so, it would offset the shorthanded goal UNB scored to give them a 2-0 lead, and the power play would be even on the night.

Wasn't so many years ago that RPI's power play was a net minus until a very considerable portion of the season had passed.

I agree with the grade, but we were playing for the first time and there was little chemistry.
We did play much better the second two periods and we held our own against a much more experienced team.
I thought it interesting how many freshman were on the ice after the goalie was pulled at the end.
Appert was totally looking at what he has in this game, and the only thing that I was concerned with was our lack of scoring.
I liked the power play, we had plenty of shots and chances, but we did not finish.
I think that we are going to start converting some of those chances for our own confidence.
All in all, I thought we played pretty well for our first game.
Looking forward to Colorado.

Welcome to the thread-it gets lively between the score thread and the in season thread.:)

UNB is as good as they were advertised as. Speed, puck control...very impressive.
As for RPI....well work in progress, saw some good things and saw some bad things.

You'll probably get pretty bored though, cuz RPI fans don't post much ;) :D
