Nescac Playoffs

Re: Nescac Playoffs

NESCAC's #1 vs #2..can't beat the match-up and the Sid will be packed! Bowdoin has an outstanding facility. While it is structurally similar to Kreitzberg I find it to be superior in lighting, atmosphere and many small touches: the wall hangings with hsitory, etc and little touches lke the old Zamboni and items from the old rink's cornerstone. Well done.

A composite video of Midd's 4 goals from Saturday are posted at http://community.middlebury.edu/~foph/mindex09.html.

Otherwise, no predictions here, but if both teams show up with their "A" games we are in for an enjoyable afternoon.

Re: Nescac Playoffs

I think the winner of the Middlebury[vs. Trinity semifinal] game will win the title.

One hour to the exhibition game between Middlebury and Bowdoin. The championship trophy was awarded last night to the Panthers at a small ceremony at the Parkside Hotel. :D

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Do we have an update on the Midd/Bowdoin game?

Middlebury 2 Bowdoin 0 after 1 - both goals were PP goals - Bowdoin spending way too much time in the penalty box, the second Middlebury goal having been scored on a very long 5 on 3. . .

Thanks, keep it coming please.;)

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Middlebury scores with 1:42 left in the 3rd period to make the score:

Middlebury - 3
Bowdoin - 2

Bowdoin timeout...

Re: Nescac Playoffs

3-2 final in favor of Midd... not that it particularly mattered except for pride and seeding purposes, since both teams are clearly in the NCAA field. Bowdoin had a nice showing in the 3rd period after Midd controlled the first 40 minutes.

Re: Nescac Playoffs

FINAL SCORE:

Middlebury - 3
Bowdoin - 2

Middlebury assures itself a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Panthers will play their first NCAA tournament game since the 2007 NCAA championship, an OT loss to Oswego which snapped a string of three straight NCAA titles for the Panthers.

Bowdoin is not clearly in
We'll have to wait and see

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Anyone got a line on the injury to Martin Drolet?? He was injured some time in the first half of the game (not sure when it happened as people did not start commenting on his absence until late in the second period) and did not return to action . .

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Winning the NESCAC Championship means a lot regardless of the NCAA bid. Congrats to both teams on an excellent game. Congrats to the Panthers for getting it done a crunch time late in a tie game.

Bowdoin was ahead of Elmira in the last regional rankings, and I don't see how EC would vault the Polar Bears given the identical runner-up finishes in their respective conference tourneys. Bowdoin's opponents this week (Hamilton & Midd) are ranked higher than Elmira's (Neumann & M'ville), so the SOS factor shouldn't shift in favor of EC. At this point I think you could even make the case for seeding Bowdoin ahead of Plattsburgh as the #1 eastern Pool C team.

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Two very good games today. D3 and Euler, I am very confident that Middlebury will win. Bowdoin's first goal was great, then they went to sleep in the 2nd period but finally wore down a tired Hamilton team that ran with a short bench. Middlebury was clinical beating a very good Trinity team 4-2 by putting the hammer down early and then closing out a game Trinity squad. I have had fun all season with you guys and I appreciate how much you love your team, they just don't match up well, I'd give you numbers that will be on the ice when middlebury scores tomorrow, but it wouldn't be fair to the kids. Bowdoin has one excellent line, but is too slow overall for Middlebury and you will see it tomorrow. If I am wrong you can enjoy telling me I was all wet all season and I will deserve it, but I won't be.

Great game by both teams - and, yes, your team is wonderful but today's results suggest that they are only marginally better than Bowdoin and that Bowdoin can skate with the Panthers when they stay out of the penalty box (a season-long problem that really bit Bowdoin today, especially in the early going). Bowdoin has a superb team and that yawning talent and speed gap exist more in your mind than on the ice.

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Midd goes to the NCAA's !! Fire Beaney ???

That "Fire Beaney Thread" is about the dumbest debate hosted by USCHOL. But it is a gas to read only to see how the wing nuts will somehow try and make a case for his dismissal. And while he doesn't have to prove much to me, Beaney has proved once again his value to Middlebury, the team, its fans and yup even their opponents.

Great playoff for both Bowdoin and Middlebury. Both are two superb teams and good luck going forward in the NCAA finals. ;) Old Rook NU'66

Re: Nescac Playoffs

Just curious but saw that the NESCAC finals had 2,300 fans and was considered sold out. The Bowdoin rink is about the same size as both Middlebury and Norwich which allow a couple hundered more fans. I have been to Sid J. Watson and cann't believe that they don't allow a few more fans to attend. Any comments?

I don't understand that either, Hawk. The place has 1900 seats and is supposed to have standing room for 600, for a total capacity of 2500. The only thing I can guess is that the fire marshal imposes strict limits on number of tickets sold. .
