Nescac 10 - 11

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

By now most D-III teams have a handful of games under their belts, and the NESCAC teams quietly practice amongst themselves heading directly into their first league game next weekend without nary an exhibition game to prepare. Unfair to say the least.

It is a choice that NESCAC schools have made it has advantages to it and disadvantages not unfair. Every team starts it's season at some point NESCAC is not special they have control over thier own schedule so if there are problems the fault lies with the coach and AD at their respective schools.

The number of NCAA Championships won by NESCAC schools makes it tough for me to believe that the late start is truly unfair. While I'll believe that the first few games of the season might be affected by the late start, the end-of-season results seem to speak for themselves.

As a former NESCAC player I can assure you that by Nov. 1st those girls are chomping at the bit & raring to go.

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

It was set in place long ago - no individual AD would have any ability to change this rule and nor would there be any institutional interest in changing it anyway because the NESCAC actually does have a good number of two-sport athletes . .

Once again change schools and stop whining, again I dont know what part of this you don't understand. What I am saying is you have a choice in this if you are a coach, player or AD accept it, change it "which will require more then saying I want this" or go somewhere else. I think it is great that they have many two sport athletes and the schools make it possible for them to play both maybe more fair then a school that makes them choose.

Whining???? Apparently you don't know the difference between explaining and "whining" or perhaps the latter is something that you relish. I happen to think that the NESCAC schedule is exactly right.

News Flash!!!
The HOCKEY is about to begin!!!
How about some opinions on this week's games???

As you say, "News Flash!" (Not meant as criticism at all, by the way!)

It's not about the hockey.

While many of these women have worked hard to become hockey players, they are all student athletes. For most if not all, of them, their academic and professional life lies beyond hockey.

That said, I have a very high regard for the balance that the NESCAC schools have tried to maintain between academics and what athletics can ADD to the educational experience.

And, yes, let's play some puck!!!

Friday, November 19 - Women:

Middlebury at Hamilton
Wesleyan at Amherst
Williams at Conn. College

Saturday, November 20 - Women:
Middlebury at Conn. College
Wesleyan at Amherst (tie)
Williams at Hamilton
Bowdoin at Colby

Best of luck to all the teams, coaches, players and supporters!

Wesleyan Amherst tie on Saturday? I would love to see that!

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

This was the best, Phil...can you rap it?

...like my wrist shots off a post!

...or....sadly...wrap it like another season ended...sigh...

...and it was bear season too (just couldn't find a license and the game wardens were like zookeepers)...we'd just evaded a ring of wild elephants and we were hanging out, tippling in a nice cave looking forward to some beach time, when... whamo! -- it was occupied by a whole den of nasty bears (on wheels!) -- a total circus on their turf in the dark -- lucky to get out alive -- I think we took over 30 penalty corners on the weekend...phew!

I don't want to see another bear until at least December

I would have to agree with you that they probably have it right. It allows the students to play more then one sport and the coach to have all players available for the whole season.

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Good Luck to all the players, coaches and parents!!!
Looking forward to seeing you all at a rink real soon!
GO U BEARS!!!

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

There is still time to get your predictions in on the Midd at Hamilton game (will it be Bloom-Hazelett...the Panthers on the smallish, historic Russell Sage ice...the Continentals beat the Panthers on a goal in the 19th minute of the 3rd way back on 2/6 despite being outshot 43-25)! Ephs at Camels? Wesleyan at Amherst? Be the first to say you saw it coming!

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

2-0 Amherst, end of first.

Goals Evans & Lloyd, about a minute apart.

5-0 Amherst after 2.

Not sure why Amherst got a man advantage after scoring #5 on a delayed penalty, but Wes. killed the PP.

Well, Dad... apparently there are 2 new rules this season:

1) if you have a delayed penalty and score on the delay -- they still have to serve the penalty -- that's incentive, huh? Makes it all the more exciting for both sides.

2) On any potential icing play -- the team that is icing it has a chance to get it called off by racing to the opposing (imaginary) line between the two face-off circles before any defender reaches that imaginary line first. If the defending goalie attempts to play the puck, the icing will be called off too, from what I understand.

Should be interesting once my mind and eyes adjust to the "race to the dots" and the potential for high-riding hangers to really clean up on those groundstroke clears.

The NCAA must be looking for more goals and offense -- juicing the puck.

I thought they rejected that. Should have, in my view.

In any event, thanks for the explanation.

Final: 7-0 Amherst.

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Amherst does not appear to have lost a beat. Should be great hockey out in Rochester next weekend!

Hamilton over Williams
Bowdoin over Colby
Midd over Conn
Amherst over Wesleyan

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Missed the first, but webcast analyst says no score after 1 at Amherst, shots AC 30, WU 3.

Swiontkowski appears to have deflected a Zukas shot for PP goal in second.

Amherst 1-0.
