NCHC: The Most Elite Conference in the Country

I think this is exactly why you'll see some angry Big Ten and NCHC fans in the coming years. There are going to be teams that would have made the NCAAs under the old conferences that will not now with the new. The "my team got screwed" threads will be fun :) You guys (as in your administrations) asked for it :P
Then we'll remember how smug the WCHA schools would be hearing someone say that. Plus the NCHC will be a more difficult conference than the WCHA. It
will prepare teams for the NCAA's better. Then we'll have no problem with our decision.
I see an NCHC team has a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist...

So you'd still be going if you were NCHC? I see. Something tells me BC doesn't care what league you came from. ;)

I'm not denying that the teams in the NCHC are the top half of the WCHA and a top team from the CCHA (sorry western, they need a few more years of winning before I'd include them). That would be stupid. But you won't see as many teams in the NCAAs and the Final Five as it exists is going to be dead.

The final five dying alone is enough reason that this whole thing sucks. Even if I've only been able to see tech there every decade or so...

Taking the Final 5 away from a hockey fan is like taking Christmas away from a 5 year old.

that's what the wcha has said for years and it's not true. it's arrogant and self serving, and its not true.

It is somewhat true, at least over the past 10 years (including this season).

Since 2003, when the tournament expanded to 16 teams, here are the Big 4 conferences records w/winning percentages:
WCHA: 54-38-0 (.587) - 5 National Championships
Hockey East: 44-32-0 (.579) - 3 National Championships
CCHA: 32-36-0 (.471) - 1 National Championship
ECAC: 11-21-0 (.344) - 0 National Championships

If BC wins it all, that would put HE ahead in win %, but behind in total wins and total titles in the 10 year span.

Further, if we take out Head to Head matches where 1 conference member knocked out the other, we get these results (basically how each conference did against the other conferences)
WCHA: 42-26-0 (.618) - 12 head to head matches
HE: 38-26-0 (.594) - 6 head to head matches
CCHA: 28-32-0 (.467) - 4 head to head matches
ECAC: 11-21-0 (.344) - 0 head to head matches

Again, I only looked at a sample size of 10 years (including this season), but it does appear that the WCHA has been the best prepared team for the NCAA Tournament in that time frame.

Re: NCHC: The Most Elite Conference in the Country

We're here to help. :)

I'll be cheering for the Gophers next weekend. While a lot of people are predicting a high scoring game, I think it will be a rather low scoring, as you have two of the best goalies squaring off against each other.

Re: NCHC: The Most Elite Conference in the Country

And does anybody have the numbers for Frozen Four participation in those years? And you could also see how many times the WCHA sends two teams to the Frozen Four. And don't forget to count that one year twice. :D

Re: NCHC: The Most Elite Conference in the Country

I didn't know that was even possible for a Sioux fan to do. :p:D

I imagine it's one of those things were you have the best intentions of doing yet and then five minutes in to the game you are cheering for BC. :p

I on the other hand will be wishing for the first ever FF tie in which both BC and MN decide to go home knowing they tried their hardest. They will than let the early game winner be the champs and applaud them. That's a possibility, right?

I just threw up a bit in my mouth after that comment. I couldn't cheer for the Gophers if my life depended on it. :) I would have to take a bath with a wife brush.

Eric you are still living in the past. You think it is still 2012 or something. The Gophers and Sioux don't play each other and haven't since 2013.;)
