NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Yeah I’m not trying to ruin the fun of the thread and I certainly won’t be offended if the bonus questions proceed. But I’m inherently lazy and I’m not interested in spending more time on the picks than it takes me to flip a coin between teams.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Nor am I trying to ruin the fun, just expressing my opinion. Kudos to anyone that puts together a thread like this. I know it takes a lot of work, and I will continue throwing those darts!

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

The week 17 winner with 26 points was...me! Woohoo!! By my count the total number of higher PWR league points picked up were 15 (UD: 0, SCSU: 6, UND: 6, WMU: 3).

I wasn't sure what to do regarding the bonus debate so I left it off for week 18. If that changes, let me know and I'll include for week 19.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

The week 18 co-winners with 16 out of a possible 17 points were BroncoHockeyFan and TalonsUpPuckDown (go MAC!). What looked like an insurmountable Siouxfaninseattle lead a couple of weeks back is now down to 4 points. Which brings me to the most important question of the season: What are we playing for?

Code:
Rank	Contestant (W/L/SOW/SOL)	This Wk	Points	Bonus	Total	Points %	Games
1	Siouxfaninseattle (91-54-3-5)	13	284	13	297	.619 153
2	TalonsUpPuckDown (90-55-5-3)	16	283	10	293	.617 153

5	SweeneyHawksHockey (80-65-6-2)	13	254 7	261	.553 153
6	S11R9Seat8 (80-62-5-3) 13	253 4	257	.562 150
7	gochiefs (78-51-4-4) 13	246 7 253	.599 137
8	John J. MacInnes (66-51-5-3)	13	211	15	226	.563 125

Bonus for week 19 is the total number of SOGs in the CC/USAFA outdoor game at Falcon Stadium.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

NACHO Cup - picks only
Penrose Cup - total points
Frozen Faceoff Championship - playoff champs

They seriously need to brand the tourney trophy.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

BONUS QUESTION for next week:

Total goals allowed by the team(s) that do not win a particular contest. (meaning both teams' GA are counted in games that officially end in a tie)

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Anybody wanna go double or nuthin (bonus points only) on the BONUS QUESTION for this week:?
Weather forecast for the outdoor game is: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 17. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
20 shots per team may be high.
Should be lots of seats open if you want to go:
https://www.denverpost.com/2020/02/16/nhl-outdoor-game-air-force-traffic-customer-service/
Go Col Force! I won't be too disappointed if Airorado College wins. I just wanna listen to Frankie's post game, and get you all warmed up for Loveland regionals in March, Colorado's snowiest month.

....so sayeth the player with the fewest SOGs picked for the week. Non merci. Though I know some people over on the WCHA Pick ’Em who may take your wager.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Due to some timely homer picking, SweeneyHawksHockey won week 19 by going 6-for-6 on on the picks and scoring the most bonus points. There were 59 SOGs in the CC/USAFA outdoor game. We should have taken s11r9seat8 up on the double-or-nothing ploy.

Siouxfaninseattle leads by 1 in the race for the Penrose Cup and TUPD currently holds the NACHO Cup lead.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Yep, you shooda all taken me up on that 2X/0 and wiped out all of my points. It sure looked to me like a slogfest brewing, especially while i was shoveling 11" of fresh (light Utah quality) snow in the morning at the ski area.
I will continue to pick wild and crazy-stupid picks here and there in the hopes that fate will give me one small victory up against you smart fokes...

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Welp... working til 6pm yesterday has sunk my Penrose and NACHO campaigns. Playoff trophy re-branding to "NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship". Might as well put the conference name in there.

BONUS QUESTIONS for the last two weeks of the regular season:

Next week:
1. Total penalty MINUTES called on the first four alphabetical teams (CC, Denver, Miami, Minnesota-Duluth) This one might need to be a 10-pointer.
2. Total PENALTIES called on the last four alphabetical teams (North Dakota, Omaha, St. Cloud, Western)

Final week:
1. "Senior Night Goals": Total goals scored by seniors (both home and away) in their final regular season contest. (NOTE: This includes any Seniors who play Friday but not on Saturday)
2. Total shutout periods by the goaltenders (60-minute regulation only)

Good with the bonus questions for week 21. However, I am not a Nacho guy by trade, so to calculate the results for bonus #1 in week 22 would require me to go through all 8 rosters by hand and figure out who the seniors are and cross index that with all 8 box scores. While I love ya BHF, I'm not entirely certain I love ya that much. Plan "B"?

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

The week 20 co-winners were the WCHA duo of John J. MacInnes and TalonsUpPuckDown each with 17 points. There were 16 goals scored by the non-winning teams (including Friday night's UND/SCSU tie). Only two players picked up bonus points: John J. MacInnes (4) and TalonsUpPuckDown (4).

There's now a tie atop the leaderboard. Siouxfaninseattle takes the lead in the race for the Nacho Cup.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Well... I've got a week to come up with something. The best I can do at the moment is scratch the Friday part and to do the tallying for that one myself.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

Re-phrasing: Total goals scored by seniors (home teams only) on Saturday.

Plan B: Total saves by the *starting* goalies each night.

Play-offs deposition to be posted on Monday!

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

SweeneyHawksHockey took the week 21 honors with a whopping 30 points. Wow.

The bonus paid out some big money this week though the pi wasn't too tasty for S11R9Seat8.
Code:
Player PIM	Penalties	Total
John J. MacInnes	2	7 9
Siouxfaninseattle	3	6 9
SweeneyHawksHockey	9	0 9
Bronco Hockey Fan	0	5 5
TalonsUpPuckDown	0	3 3
S11R9Seat8 0	0 0

Siouxfaninseattle's big bonus week seems to have settled the race for the Penrose Cup.

Re: NCHC Pick 'Em 2019-2020

First off, what happened to GoNanooks? Did he drop out entirely?

NCHC Pick 'Em play-offs format:

Since there's only 8 (or 7) of us, obviously it is 4 v 5, 3 v 6, 2 v 7 and 1 v 8/Bye. Whoever has the top seed better pick games in the quarterfinals just in case.

- For the quarterfinals, the picks will count for ALL GAMES, so be sure to pick an outcome for a potential game three in every series. It won't count if the series ends in a sweep. The statistical bonus questions will only count for games 1 and 2.
- The four winners advance to the semifinals, which will of course, be day one of the Frozen Faceoff, and the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship match will be for day two of the real thing.

3 pts for a correct pick. Ties go to the higher seed.

QUARTERFINALS Bonus questions:

1. How many series will need 3 games? (1 pt)
2. Total goals scored in the 1st period (Friday/Saturday only) (5 pts)
3. Total shutout periods in regulation (Friday/Saturday only) (3 pts)

To clarify what I mean with #3, I am referring to how many periods will a team hold their opponent scoreless. Example: UND's 1-0 victory over CC earlier this season had 5 shutout periods, because UND obviously shutout CC in all three periods, whereas CC shutout UND in two. In UND's 1-0 OT victory over WMU, there were 6, as both goalies pitched shutouts through the entirety of regulation.

Any questions?

Single elimination, right? Win or go home?

Edit: It looks like we're down to 6. Seeds 1 and 2 get byes?
