NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS season?

I'm guessing they would send UND out east if they lose tomorrow. Or if SCSU wins the Frozen Faceoff and gets a 1 seed and UND a 2 seed maybe they keep them both at the X.

I guess my thinking was along the lines of those two teams both being 1 seeds. Even with a loss tomorrow I don't see any way that UND can drop out of the top four in PWR. My guess is that today's loss means they will be placed in the Cincinnati regional regardless of how they do in the 3rd place game (unless Denver beats SCSU tonight).

I doubt it has anything to do with what they "like". It just happens to work out that way in years that it is warranted by the circumstances. But Cincinnati isn't exactly east. East of St. Paul, yes... but it is still the Midwest Regional. It's not like they're going to be placed in the East or Northeast Regionals.

10,860 was the attendance for the UND/UMD game. They may get that for the total 5 games at the X. ;)

So UND lost today and the Gophers won, but at least the UND game drew a bigger crowd. Nice to see you NCHC (No College Hockey Championships) fans have your priorities in order.

UND was a lock for a 1 seed before the weekend and I'm pretty sure SCSU is a lock now too. They won't be together. If UND wins and SCSU loses tomorrow, UND should jump SCSU in the PWR and get the St. Paul regional.

I'm no PWR mathematician, but I'm looking at the standings now and we're #2 overal, UNDies are #3. If both teams win tomorrow, would we still retain that #2 overall ranking? And if we retain that ranking, do we have the "rights" on being assigned to St. Paul for the regional?

That would certainly make sense. The only way I can see UND leapfrogging over SCSU at this point is if the scenario that RL3AO suggested plays out. I still can't believe Duluth beat UND and I'll be even more surprised if they beat SCSU, but they might be in desperation mode. If Minnesota and Northeastern both win tomorrow night, Duluth will no longer be in position for an at-large bid.

Re: NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS seaso

Well I watched UMD come into St. Cloud and sweep three weeks ago. They seem to match up with St. Cloud really well. I'd give SCSU a 60 to 65% chance to win.

Re: NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS seaso

Duluth plays very good team defense and they have a good goal tender. That is a recipe for playing patient hockey. The caveat in this is Minnesota because if they win tonight, they HAVE to play in St Paul. Is the committee going to protect the higher seed by sending them to Cincy to play the AHA/WCHA winner or keep them closer and play Minnesota? I don't think there's a big difference between Mankato, AHA winner, and Minnesota in terms of qualify or competition so personally the closer venue in St Paul is better. Course, none of this matters if Michigan wins tonight anyways. If that happens and Mankato wins the WCHA, you will probably see them in St Paul against the higher seed between UND/St Cloud.

Congrats on your win over a team that is 31st in the pairwise... I would think that is one of your bigger wins on the season.

MN has not played well in the Xcel these last two years. I don't know that keeping the higher seed in St. Paul is a punishment at all, more of a push, really. Add to that, MN won't be playing a B1G 6 opponent, so they'll be tight and second guessing themselves all game long.

The Gophers have been horribly inconsistent all year, you just never know when you're going to see them bring their A game and when they're going to come out flat. When they come out flat I would have to agree that they're no better than Mankato or whoever comes out of the AHA, but when they play to their potential they are very capable of beating anybody in the nation. If my favorite team was a 1 seed the Gophers would be the absolute last team I'd want to see them face on day 1 of the regionals.

You are seriously delusional my friend... most teams would take it as a gift to get to play the goofs as a day one opponent. At what point during this year did you get the feeling that minnesota can play with the best teams in the NCAA? Your huge win against a tired ohio team yesterday?

Clearly you refuse to view the Gophers objectively due to your irrational hatred. It seems like almost every year there is at least one regional matchup where a 4 seed beats a 1 seed. If the Gophers advance I would view them as being the most likely of the four 4 seeds to win a game. If you choose to disagree so be it, you're certainly entitled to your opinion even when it is based on prejudice.

Objectively how is minnesota more likely to win a first round matchup over UMD, Yale or Northeastern? Your maroon glasses are very thick.

When the Gophers play to their potential they are superior to any of the other teams that are likely to be 4 seeds, but I'm not sure what makes you think those three teams that you named are all going to be 4 seeds. Did you forget about the AHA/WCHA tournament champions? There's two of the 4 seeds right there, and both nowhere near as likely as the Gophers to knock out a 1 seed.

As I recall, the Gophers were beat by Mankato State twice this year. Lost to Michigan State and Wisconsin State, barely escaped Ohio State twice this year, and you're singing their praises as though they're something special. The best team they beat all year was Michigan, split the series with two one-goal wins and lost big twice. Michigan, who'll either be a two or three seed, depending upon the outcome of tonight's game. Yeah, the Gophers have proven themselves against no likely one seeds all year. In fact, the Gophers were smacked around twice by their only one-seed opponent all year round - SCSU.

So basically, the mythical "potential" that the goofs could possibly play at is why, objectively, they are better than any other four seed out there. Objectively speaking, the potential you speak of was never there.
