NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS season?

Here's sort of a silly feature from the NCHC about "The toughest arenas to play in in the conference":

http://www.nchc.tv/nchc/video/nchc-inside-the-nchc---s3,-episode-12-1-13-16

Silly, in that the league now features an arena that 6 of the 8 teams in the conference have never set foot in.

Ya, That's y it's not very tough to play in.... Because nobody has played there yet and by arena do you mean convention center? Cause that's what it looks like and feels like.

I'm guessing 5 teams will make it to the tourney this year. UND, UMD, SCSU, DU and UNO. Denver and Duluth will turn it on at the end here and climb up where they need to be.

How does a dual rink hockey facility that has or serves no other purpose, other than basketball and volleyball, look and feel like a convention center when there is no such space in the building whatsoever?

Looks like the answer is 3, possibly 4. UMD probably needs one win to make. This also seems like the ideal set up to see if the NCHC can grow this Frozen Faceoff. Three closest teams. Four teams on serious rolls. UMD playing for its season. No excuses this year.

It's going to be a fun tournament.

If UNO ever makes a post-season tournament I'd love to see how many fans they would bring. Replace them with DU and you'd have the perfect attendance formula.

0-6 since they left the CCHA and they were the highest seed in at least 3 of them.

Hard to ask for better matchups in Mpls next weekend. Clearly you've got the top 4 teams playing each other and with UND, St Cloud, and UMD all there, attendance should be about as good as you could ask for. UMD sits at #13 in the pairwise so they may need to win at least one game to cement their status into the NCAAs.

Re: NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS seaso

UND vs UMD - UND swept 4 games season series 3-0,3-0 in Duluth, 2-1, 2-1(ot) in GF.

SCSU vs DU - SCSU won only 2 games in series in Denver 5-2, 6-2

UND 30-5-3 -- 1st pairwise, have won last 8 games. Drake tied 2nd nation game winning goals 7. Cam 0.937 sv% 2nd nation. 1.580 gaa 1st nation. Boeser 4th nation 25 goals. UND 1.820 gaa 3rd nation.

SCSU 29-9-1 -- 3rd pairwise, 6-2 last 8 games. Two losses were to UMD in St. Cloud. 2nd nation goals per game 4.283. 29.37 pp% 2nd nation . 7.12 PIM per game 3rd nation. Kossila 3rd nation 33a.benik 7 game winning goals tied 2nd nation

DU 23-8-5 -- 6th pairwise, 11 wins in a row. Swept UND in Denver. Last 4 wins vs uno. Moore tied 4th nation 31 assists.

UMD 17-14-4 -- 13th pairwise, 6-2 last 8 swept by UND in GF. Last 4 wins have been vs Miami in Duluth. Farley 8 pp goals tied 3rd nation.

Every team is entering the tourney on a win streak.

DU at 11, UND at 8, UMD at 6, and SCSU at 4. Needless to say it's anyone's tourney. Attendance should be at an all time high albeit it is only in its third year of existence.

Fans are crazy not to go. My only fear is fans saving their travel budget for the NCAAs.

So is it confirmed that the UND/UMD game will be the early one?

Re: NCHC '15 -'16--Or, how many conference teams are going to the tourney THIS seaso

UND/UMD will indeed be the early game. Coach Berry wanted the earlier game.

My prediction is Duluth will lose twice this weekend, leaving the NCHC with three teams in the NCAA tournament (St. Cloud, North Dakota, and Denver). The bigger question in my mind is will any of these three teams win a Frozen Four game?

My prediction is Speed Kills will come in here, puffing his "The Big Ten is the best" chest and try to hijack this thread.

...Shoot, shoulda posted this earlier

If any of those teams do win a frozen four game, it will probably be a lucky goal in the last .6 second of a game they were thoroughly out-played in. Then, they will burn down the area surrounding their campus... Then, they will make shirts with .6 on them... Then, they will get completely embarrassed by a small eastern school in the national title game. This is my prediction.

I'd expect quite a few B1G fans at the Target Center this weekend who figure that while they are in town they might as well see some ranked teams play.

They might enjoy seeing what complete hockey teams look like for a change. The closest thing they have is the defenseless Ugly Helmets.

Obviously, you have to focus on the NCHC since everyone knows that the Little Six team(s) that makes the tournament has zero chance to even win one game, let alone get to the Frozen Four. But, hey, don't feel too down about it. You can still look back on the one year Minnesota beat the 16th, 9th and 14th seeded teams in the tournament to get to the title game. That memory should be enough to sustain you for the next who-knows-how-many years until the Little Six has a team that isn't destined to get blown out in the first round of the tournament. (Haha, remember last year when the Gophers were the only team from the B1G that got in, and returned almost everyone from their awesome 2014 team, and were down 3-0 against Duluth after the first period? And then the camera showed the Gophers bench and the players looked they wanted to just be anywhere else? That was fun to watch.)

But yeah, Denver, UND and SCSU are all pretty good teams with single digit losses. All of them have a good chance to get to the Frozen Four. Two NCHC teams will probably end up playing each other there, so we are pretty much guaranteed a Frozen Four win.
