NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

I know this isn't about the all-NCHA team, but Jordan Chong should have been the Player of the Year. Gaulrapp is very good, but I'll take Chong.

Agreed --- Chong was the best forward I saw all season...came up with some timely goals for the Saints.

Correct. I just don't get how Gaulrapp got it--statistically, Chong led him in every category, including 32 fewer PIMs. The 6 game winners really stands out, too, including the SH GW at SNC.

The only thing that comes to mind is Gaulrapp's nomination to the Frozen Four Skills Challenge. However, that shouldn't matter in terms of POTY voting.

I suppose that does mark him as an excellent player.

I still think Chong was robbed, but congratulations to Gaulrapp and the rest of the guys who made All-Conference.

A strong case can be made for Chong. I would have taken Gaulrapp last year as the POTY. He had so many timely goals, game winners and was incredible in the run to Lake Placid.

He's always good and does amazing things in nearly every game, but Rapp hasn't stood out like he did last year.

Chong seemed like the likely choice, but I offered up the only thing I can imagine that would reason Gaulrapp ahead of Chong.

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Well, to get back on topic, tonight's game at Mars was awful.

UWS played great--they showed a lot of heart, and as a result outplayed CSS the whole game.

CSS was fine offensively, but defensively were horrid. Kleiman played fine, with a few questionable decisions in coming out to play the puck. No excuses for a veteran defense that's played great all season. The boys showed a lot of skill offensively, but really lacked any kind of intensity for most of the game. I'd bet it has to do with age, but hopefully they realize that tomorrow night is win or end of season--I know Superior does, and will bring out another great contest.

Anyhow, it was a surprise they came out flat after doing the same last week, but they are only two weeks removed from a great weekend vs SNC and UWSP. UWS pulled out a tie against a weak CSS, but against a spirited version, they shouldn't advance. I think the Saints will decide to play tomorrow.

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

The take from Menomonie....

UW-Stout had no problems handling the Pointers last night. They again out shot UWSP and were able to beat the freshmen Graves for 4 goals. Jumping out to an early lead in the 1st was critical for UW-Stout and really pumped their confidence.

I see UW-Stevens Point's season ending later tonight and the Devils' will make it to the 2nd round. Their confidence is back and the team is excited like I haven't seem them in awhile. They looked very solid on the ice tonight as they controlled the majority of the game, even with the multitude of injuries they are facing right now.

However, I feel it could be a real gongshow as there was a few scrums last night and I'm sure tonight will be even worse.

The take from Menomonie....

Lescovich made some pretty big saves(or Point missed the net?) in the first period that probably frustrated the Point players, and it sort of snowballed on them from there. There were two Stout goals that I'm sure Graves would want back... Either way, Point will need to score more than one goal to force a mini-game this evening.

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

It is ONLY the 1st game in the playoffs but I got a kick out of someone posting that Superior had only a snowballs chance in hell of winning the series. But at least Yellow Jackets made it interesting. can`t imagine any team would come into the playoffs assuming they would win and not taking the game seriously but I am sure Saints will come out swinging tonight.

Stout seems to be back on track, wonder if Hopper the goalie will play tonight or go with winning goalie from 1st game.

I guess the Falcon team that wins showed up ha ha. Only 5 penalties.

The talk about who made All Conference is hard to debate because in my opinion it isn`t just scoring you have to take into account. It is kind of like the controversy regarding the gold medal performance in the men`s figure skating. You know the Russians are saying if you don`t complete a quad jump you can`t be a gold metalist. If All Conference is just about how many points you score then it is pretty cut and dry as to who makes the team I think playing both ends of the ice as well as game winners, scoring, consistency in completing their postion responsibilities etc taking into consideration all aspects or elements of the game has to be considered. D men are even more difficult because unless you have played D sometimes spectators don`t really watch the real unsung heros unless a D man misses a poke check or gets beat and then fans blame it on the D man. I was impressed with Norbert`s Tabisz and the freshman from RF Horn

There was some of both. Point had a few really good looks that went wide.

Let's not get overconfident, BDR. I expect a close one tonight and wouldn't be surprised if we get the extra 20 minutes for our money. Hopefully, you are right, though.

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Things I learned from the opening round of the NCHA Playoffs:

1. You can't pre-emptively book a trip to Lake Placid.
2. You can't pre-emptively win the Peters Cup
3. You can't pre-emptively win an opening round playoff series
4. Karma is a *****

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Good job Pointers. After seeing Stout play so uninspired a couple of weeks ago I had you winning this series, although I questioned what the heck I was thinking after last night. I'll be very interested to see how Scholastica responds next weekend. They've really been scuffling the last few weekends. A few weeks ago I would have thought their positioning for a Pool C spot as a safety net was pretty solid, but now not so much.

Re: NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Ok what a league this is ..great 1/4 final games!
Can1t believe any other league is as competetive as NCHA

Looking ahead St Norbert should win

other semi final
falcons obviously showed up with the correct team but still took too many penalties, I think penalties will be the deciding factor , if RF takes penalties as they have in the past Saints will win, I don`t see home factor an advantage against Falcons. I am thinking Saints got to be feeling a little lucky and the end of the season hasn`t been going well, they haven`t played like a 5th in nation team. They beat the Falcons bad last time but in their mind they know Falcons beat them convincingly and the other game they tied. I think it is Saints to lose but the under dog falcons are fun to watch and alot of talent on that team.
