Ncha 10-11

Re: Ncha 10-11

It happens if the creator of the thread deletes the original post. Anyone know who that may have been?

Disregard that, I see what you mean now. I thought you meant it was deleted. No idea why it was locked. Interesting. I'd say it could be the thread title but you would have thought it would have been done before now if that was the case. No clue.

Re: Ncha 10-11

Well, let's break down this weeks quarterfinals

#5 CUW @ #4 UWEC
Previous meetings UWEC 5 CUW 3, UWEC 2 CUW 2

Eau Claire should be favored slightly in this series

Eau Claire pretty much having the year that everyone expected them to have. Concordia performing a little better this year than most expected. This will be a very even matchup, could very easily go to the mini-game situation.

Players to watch for
Eau Claire
Kristen Faber--20 goals on the season, key player for the Blugolds
Mara Stormer--.924 save %, 1.68 GAA

CUW
Lea Jondal--has stolen the show on many occasions over the past season
Sarah Luberda--2nd leading scorer in NCHA action this season, 1 pt behind Mason of RF and 1 pt ahead of Fabe

Prediction: CUW in the mini game

#6 Lake Forest @ #3 Superior

Previous Meetings UWS 3 LFC 3, UWS 3 LFC 1

Superior should be favored by a couple goals

Superior came into the season with a lot of question marks. They enter these playoffs with a lot of question marks. They have tied every single team in the NCHA playoffs, some surprises...some good ties. Overall they seem to be moving in the right direction. Lake Forest shocked most people with their mediocrity this season. Most people had high expectations for the Foresters after their breakout season last year, but they never lived up to those expectations...can they break through in the playoffs??

Players to Watch For
UWS
Superior really doesn't have any big name players to watch. 8 skaters have double digit point totals, both goalies have .925 save percents and GAA in the 1.6 range.

Lake Forest
Kim Herring--not having the season she was expecting...mainy due to her being sick the whole first half. Can she break through?

Prediction: Superior wins both games and advances

#7 Stevens Point @ # 2 Adrian
Previous meetings: UWSP 1 Adrian 1, UWSP 4 Adrian 1

Favorite: I don't know. Depends on who shows up for both teams, I'll give Adrian the advantage due to the distance and home ice

Its been a season of up and downs for both teams in my opinion. Everyone knows about Adrian's jekyll and hyde personality. Can they finally get over that hump and be consistent for 2 weeks. A lot of people, including me, have been expecting this drop off from Steven's Point. They still have a good shot at winning this series in my opinion as they have a decent group of players to get the job done. The question is, can they overcome the coaching issues that we all have heard about?

Players to watch
UWSP
Erin Marvin 15 goals, 13 assists on the season
Stacy Pomering .921 save %, 2.18 GAA

Adrian
Stacy Kempson 12 goals, 9 assists
Emily Michelin .934 save % 1.94 GAA--did not play in the 4-1 loss

Prediction: Adrian gets 3 points and advances

#8 SNC @ #1 River Falls

Previous Matchups: RF 3 SNC 1, RF 1 SNC 1

Favorite: Obviously River Falls is the favorite here, but by how much?

Never has an 1 vs 8 matchup garnered so much attention. I think all eyes in the D3 women's world will be watching the score update thread on this one. Can SNC pull off the upset, its very possible. Will they? I don't think so, River Falls experience and depth will pay off here. One thing is for certain, River Falls must avoid the mini-game at all costs.

Players to watch
River Falls--so many
Kait Mason-- 14 goas, 18 assists on the season
Cassi Campbell--.928 save %, 1.48 GAA

SNC--again so many
Kaley Gibson--.947 save %, 1.61 GAA
Lauren Strauss and Karissa Anderson, 21 and 20 points respectively

Prediction: River Falls takes at least 3 points and advances.

I'd bet it got closed because of the thread title...but really I ask you, what's wrong with "Kivi... You St. Norbert" ;)

Re: Ncha 10-11

gojackets, just wanted to point out you have a typo in your quarterfinals post above. You show "#8 Adrian @ #1 River Falls" but no doubt you meant "#8 St. Norbert @ #1 River Falls". Everything below the heading references SNC so it's obviously just a typo.

This is going to be such a fun O'Brien Cup playoff, to bad I have to miss most if not all of it.

Re: Ncha 10-11

Luberda named player of the week. Some intersting things in the NCHA weekly release that I have noticed before. Granted, I never really look at it.

http://www.nchahockey.org/1011/1011releases/feb22_wncha_1011.pdf

It has some statistics on the teams.

Superior is 8-0-2 when leading after the 2nd period.
River Falls is of course 19-01 when leading after the 2nd.

River Falls has only trailed after 2 periods one time this season...i'm pretty sure that was against Superior which they ended up tying.

Re: Ncha 10-11

I know that this may come off as biased, but why did Faber get it over Mason? Mason is the leading scorer in the NCHA, many of which points come from assists showing great teamwork. Is it because she's a freshman? Again, not trying to play favorites here, but I feel that it should be the top scorer or maybe a near-perfect goalie

Exactly as you said, Faber is a senior and I don't think UWEC would be half the team that they are without her (we'll see next year). Mason will get it eventually. 3 point difference isn't that huge either.
