NCAA Semifinal -- #2 BC vs. #3 Harvard: Oh, hello.

Re: NCAA Semifinal -- #2 BC vs. #3 Harvard: Oh, hello.

It was a quality, skilled game. Both teams executed on their gameplan. During the Minny/Wisco semi I said to Joe and Grant that I was more scared of Harvard than either of the WCHA teams, and obviously that was correct in a trivial sense, but I stand by it. Had BC made it through they were clearly the better team than Minnesota: they play a similar game, but BC are crisper, faster, and more highly skilled. I'll be interested to see if Harvard's game plan works against Minnesota the way it worked against BC. Minnesota seem better set up to cope with grinders than this BC team.

Interesting post. I think you're seeing a couple of things. As one poster mentioned, the handful of tougher teams BC has faced are defensive in nature. That allows them to wheel. BU maybe not so much, but neither MN or UW had much problems with them.

Regarding MN, I think you're discounting a team's ability to take over a game. UW was flying early in the semi...and looked poised to crush MN the same way they did BU. The Gophers held on, slowed UW, seized control, scored when they needed to, the amount they needed to...and then did what they needed to close out the game. You don't need to be showy when you take control of a game. Not to take anything away from Harvard, but I'm guessing what you think you saw in relative performance between BC and MN was an illusion based on head to heads and PWR. Tomorrow night will give us more information on that.

Re: NCAA Semifinal -- #2 BC vs. #3 Harvard: Oh, hello.

Watching it live I thought BC completely lacked intensity until after Harvard scored their second goal.

exactly, BC may have skill, but I was totally unimpressed with their intensity & desire
it was the exact opposite of the MN/WI first period where those two teams did not allow the other to do much because they were on each other like flies on ...

The one valid complaint I feel BC fans & team would have is that the refs seemed to let Harvard get away with a few things later in the game
but Harvard clearly had the intensity edge IMO,
they are a bit like Bemidji & UND, great goaltending & D
the longer the game is scoreless on Sunday, and/or if they score first, the better their chance should be

if they give one up early ....
