Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

Interesting stats....wanna bet that Johnson shadows Poulin? Matching lines for sure but she'll be marked....that said, while there is no doubting Poulin, you gotta give Tutino the credit for setting her up all game!

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

I think maybe the most interesting stat is won-loss records against TUCs - Wisconsin 15-5-4, BU 4-5-3.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

Full is better though, isn't it?

For the most part, I would say yes. However, if the lower bowl of Kohl is full (which is was for Harvard in '06) it becomes more of a push. A packed LaBahn (only reserved seating for the year) will make for crowded bathrooms, concessions and concourses.

If and/or when Wisconsin ever hosts a WCHA or NCAA tourney, they would probably play at Kohl Center. If the Badgers were involved in those games, I believe they would break the playoff attendance record, whatever that may be.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

I think LaBahn works to Wisconsin's advantage more than the Kohl Center would. I realize it isn't quite Olympic sized, but we've seen what #29 can do on an Olympic sheet, so I'm sure Mark Johnson is happy to defend against her on a smaller ice surface.

Great point, and UW is not at all accustomed to the large ice sheet. The thought was it would be awesome to have 4000+ at a regional.

You haven't been to Hyannis for the HEAs have you? (If you ever do make sure to say hello) That is a TINY sheet and she does plenty.

I was at the 2012 game against Mercyhurst at the Kohl Center, and that was a pretty lively atmosphere with a good student section.

That said, last year's game against Harvard was one of the best atmospheres (if not the best) I've been in at LaBahn, and the Badgers will have a bit more familiarity playing in the same rink they've been playing on all year.

I realize that she can excel anywhere. My point is Wisconsin is good at taking away open ice, so it works to the Badgers' advantage, not Poulin's disadvantage.

As for an Eastern trip, I'll never make Hyannis, but maybe Durham next year and a women's Beanpot is on my bucket list. I definitely want to meet you if I ever get out there.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

Seems that UW has a large advantage on the D side of the coin (including the pk) and on the O side I'd give a small advantage to BU because of Poulin only. I'm not sure BU has seen such a quality D as UW's.

After the Wisconsin game, BU will have played all six of the top scoring defenses in the country, so I'm not sure how true that it is.

If you are talking about Quinnipiac, Minnesota, B.C., Clarkson and Harvard as the other top six defensive teams, it appears that the Terriers went 4-4-2 in those games, scoring an average of 2.6 goals per game.

Meanwhile Wisconsin played just six games against the other top six defensive teams - four vs. Minnesota and two vs. Clarkson - and posted a record of 1-3-2, scoring an average of just 1.5 goals per game. However they seem to have picked up their offense lately, having tallied four in each of their two playoff games vs. North Dakota and Bemidji State, which statistically have the 7th and 9th best defensive teams in the country.

Should be a very interesting battle between these two.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal: UW Hosts BU

you people seem to be forgetting that some of the best defensive teams in the country were left out of the NCAA because of the flawed methodology the NCAA uses

All WI has to do is have a stalemate between BU's 1st line which I suspect Johnson will match with Turnbull-Ammerman-Sylvester (or some variation, no need to shadow, just play good D and take advantage of any opportunity that comes along) and stay out of the penalty box (something WI is probably the best team in the country at doing) and they should win.

if BU can get by WI & MN, I guess I'll have to cheer them on in the final, they will deserve it

Wisconsin is among the best, but Quinnipiac is the best by a decent margin, as the Bobcats are in most seasons.
