NCAA Quarterfinal Plattsburgh @ Amherst

I'm not surprised that Amherst is doing it that way (that's the way they handled the NESCAC playoffs) but am surprised that the NCAA doesn't require that an allotment of tickets be provided to the visiting school for advance sales . .

They have to give so many out but is normally used up with parents and families.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal Plattsburgh @ Amherst

Anyone have reason to believe that this game could be a sell out and people will get turned away at the gate?

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal Plattsburgh @ Amherst

Amherst has never had much of a home-ice advantage as the student body has never particularly supported the team, and they get zero support from the local population (mostly due to UMass being down the road). That being said, they appeared to have a decent sized student section during the NESCAC championship game on Sunday. I would also say that whatever the attendance was for the game this past Sunday is likely pretty close to capacity for the arena, as it looked pretty full and was definitely more full than I've ever seen it. There are four sections of bleachers (either side of the ice in each offensive zone) and standing room around the ends of the rink. No bleachers at center ice so you can't see over the players benches or penalty boxes from those areas. I wouldn't be surprised if that 1050 capacity was an estimate they made when they were looking at installing stadium seating about 10 years ago, but that upgrade never happened.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal Plattsburgh @ Amherst

Amherst's women also host the NCAA tournament sectionals this weekend and unlike here at Oswego where it is an afterthought Basketball is huge at Amherst so that would probably draw some of the crowd away from hockey.

And that likely explains the slightly late starting time of 7:30 PM -- the starting time for the women's b-ball sectional is 6 PM on Saturday. So with the 7:30 starting time, Amherst fans should be able to attend both events (the b-ball gym is right next to the rink).

How ironic that the cardinals fans are so concerned that they will not get seats to see their team in Amherst. When we drive 4 to 5 hrs. To Plattsburgh and have to wait in line 2 hrs and not get tickets. I never hear any concern for us. Hope you Platty fans enjoyed your seats sat nite at the campus center you bought online.

How many times have you or anyone else been turned away? Try BEING a Plattsburgh fan and driving SIX or EIGHT hours to Plattsburgh and having to stand in line. What did we have to do back in the Romney days....oh thats right drive 6 hours and hope there were tickets...
Those of us FANS will get there early and wsit.in line and.not.complain like yourself. Ive sat in many a rink in the wee hours of night to get tickets. Get over it.

WRONG - There are MANY Plattsburgh fans, myself included that feel Plattsburgh's AD is to busy making himself feel important as he works to get the DI & DIII championships combined - to care if Plattsburgh has working scoreboards, video webcasts - or even in-arena video, let alone anything resembling 21st century ticketing.

The fans on this board did not implement the policy of which you gripe. And I bet most on here would change the policy too. Now back to hockey...

The NCAA requires a minimun of 200 tickets (or 15 % if that is the higher number) for the visiting school. Amherst must be purchasing the tickets for their students and paying the difference on the other student tickets because all tickets have a minimum price of $5.00 per NCAA handbook.

Plattsburgh is organizing a fan bus for the game Saturday night

http://www.gocardinalsports.com/news/2012/3/5/MHOCKEY_0305124949.aspx?path=mhockey

Good deal $15 for bus fare and another $5 for an adult hockey game ticket ($3 student) & you are guaranteed entrance to the game. Look to see if the Birds can travel to Amherst and knock off another NESCAC school similar to two years ago when they traveled to Middlebury. Good Luck and hope to see you down the road.:)

Tempting... just need to decide if I want to spend ~9hrs on a bus round-trip for a 2 hour hockey game, only to get on a bus 3 days later to make the 24hr trip to Florida (knowing full well that I'll be on the bus for another 24hrs on the return leg of the trip.

if you have to ponder this then I have to ponder your fandom....

You only live once - and hopefully, seldom after graduation will you be have the luxury of such a choice - at least while you are young enough for it to be a choice.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal Plattsburgh @ Amherst

I look at it this way, I would rather sit on a bus and relax than have to spend money on gas and drive myself for 9 hours.....
