NCAA Playoffs: Augsburg at St. Norbert - Round 4

No horse in this race but when talking about teams with similar records the face to face meeting
should prevail rather than some statistical crap. Hmm, I see the games were played at Augs earlier this year.

New to D3? This is great compared to way it used to be.

Re: NCAA Playoffs: Augsburg at St. Norbert - Round 4

That argument always seemed kind of tautological to me. The reality is anything can happen in a one game playoff. Even if you think your team has a 60% chance of winning, that means you still have a 40% chance of losing. I wouldn't want to spin that revolver chamber any more times than I need to.

+1

Re: NCAA Playoffs: Augsburg at St. Norbert - Round 4

If it's a team they can't beat, then I guess they aren't really national champions anyway
somewhat sarcasm alert..

Oh, even the 2008 SNC team, which finished 27-1-4 couldn't beat Gustavus that year, or the 2017 Norwich team couldn't beat Endicott. It's a matter of making sure you beat them at the right time! ;)

Once again, everything this year was based on the PWR. Period. End of story. That is the only statistic that counts. Crap or not.

We could explain it to him, again.

Pairwise rankings are composed of 3 components, each worth 1 “point”, with RPI being the tiebreaker. The three components are: Record Head-to-head, Record against Common-Opponents, RPI (conglomeration of winning %, opponent’s W%, Opponents’ opponent’s W%). So, not only are SNC and Augsburg being compared to each other, but every other team in the nation. The number of comparisons won against all others = their relative rank in PWR. With 83 teams in D3 this season, the max number of comparisons won is 82...UWSP.

Augsburg won 75 comparisons, SNC won 79, hence the higher seed.

In other parts of this board they’d say “Simple Math”

True, but you still might see the same Riley Christensen on the PP...

Yes and that is why a game with St. Norbert is special. You know it is the top level of the D3 athletic landscape.

I'm not gonna lie, we are due.
