NCAA Play-In Round Curry @ Elmira: Wed. Mar 10th

Re: Curry @ Elmira

Re: Curry @ Elmira

In the photo being referenced, can anyone venture a guess as to what the source is of the "white ring" (resembles a white wire tie) appearing above "au" in Bauer on Morikawa's right glove? It appears that is could be connected (stuck) to both him and Warsofsky.

Here's the proof

It looks like the tightening string for the glove cuff. You can see the same string on the left glove cuff.

This goes back to poor "ref"ing all year long. Let's face it, we don't get the best refs at the DIII level. Slow, chatty refs that would rather stand at the blue line two feet from one another talking than actually getting into position to make a call or getting to the blue line quick enough to call an off-sides.

Exception: there are a handful of refs that do a great job. Just a handful(maybe just a Simpson handful)

Great job Soaring Eagles!!! Keep up the hard work.

Looks like a lace to me. I've seen a glove lace get caught in the glass before, took our player right off his feet and the glove just hung there on the glass. Definitely a bad call.Redemption was sweet though:D

Re: Curry @ Elmira

- So:so crowd, maybe 1100
- Very entertaining game ... reminded me of a Plattsburgh style
- Curry is undersized, but quick and energetic
- Elmira began to dominate toward the 14:00 minute mark of each period, but still cannot bury the puck
- Elmira seriously outshot the Colonels 43-22, but either sent them wide or into defensemen
- Curry's top two lines, centered by 13 & 15, can play with any in the country
- Curry packs it in defensively, stays with guys well in front of the goal, and doesn't allow much of anything uncontested
- Curry's downfall was stupid penalties, and playing the top two lines to exhaustion
- Curry also won a large % of faceoffs
- Officiating was okay. Best call of the night two helmets got somehow attached, and McSweeney called a penalty for holding. Never asked for help.
- EC's 3rd goal of the evening was a four pass combo in the slot ... perhaps the prettiest of the century for EC.
- Curry cycles the puck really well

I drove over 60,000 miles that last four years. Elbo, I could have just got you to send me play by play every game. You might be the BEST Play by play man in college hockey.!! You the man.
I would have never missed a game if I did not have to!! only missed 10 in four years home and away. You are a big help this year thought. What will we all do on Sat. now?

The ref who made that call (not jones ?? don't have his name offhand ) seemed to be the only person in the rink who didn't see what happened ..i had a lady and her young son sitting in front of me and she immediately said " that's not a penalty " their helmets were locked ..

Which brings me to the purpose of my post..Refs ..

only a few seem to be able to keep up with the play ..and to make the correct calls given the pace of the game ..for the most part they look like they aren;t ready for the speed or skill that D3 has reached...There also seems to be some sort of competition between the 2 ref's at times ..
To be objective some ref's do a good job unfortunately for D3 they are few and far between.

I thought that Jones did a good job and is consistent in all the times i;ve seen him ref ..for example at one point on a questionable or bad call again by the same ref. in a one goal game ..for boarding against Day ..Jones shortly after called a too many men on the ice" against Curry which seemed to be a even up call ..he also doesn't overcall the game ..being content to "let them play"

I have noticed that the refs seldom seem to confer on really important calls for example the last second goal in the Manhattenville game which with video replay or a conference with the officials would have been waved off for goalie interference..given there is no video replay this at the least should at least be the norm

One area of the D3 game that needs to be addressed IMHO is training and recruiting of good referres..

I'm surprised no Elmira fans noticed there was a "legend" present at the EC game last night. That legend was Glenn Thomaris. He stood for most of the game by the end of the bleachers where Curry took the ice. First time I've seen him there, but shouldn't be surprised with the history between him and Saul.

Glenn doesn't go to any games?
He does coach a jr team that plays 50ish games so I'm sure he has games every weekend
glad he was there

one of my players tranferred out of Curry this year so I let him know EC is still the program to beat
