NCAA Fozen Four: Like this name?

I was just thinking, with NCAA hockey/ March Madness etc coming up Mar/Apr...why did this name "Frozen Four" stick to coll hockey? Was it the networks?..

Don't get me wrong.. i do like it, but we have the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Final Four, the NBA Championships, etc..

..could we as college hockey fans done better (collectively), to give/use a better name for our beloved NCAA bound teams? Did we have a chance? Get a choice? Was there a poll?

Are most ardent coll hockey fans pretty happy with this name- (clearly taken from our BB friends, to piggyback a bit on their TV/ratings success) -
ours now called NCAA Frozen Four.. Could we have done better?

I am okay with it (i like it), because i understand it garners attention with both, the hockey/ non-hockey crowd.

Thoughts.. comments...suggestions? Hey, its Beanpot Monday.. i'm trying to not focus on tonight.. until tonight :)

It's been successful as a differentiator from the hoops tourney and it works.

I wouldn't mess with it.

ah.. the thread title.. sorry, my 'frozen' brain did not proof read that..

of course i meant "frozen", but like Swami, i agree the name (though not completely original), now (s)ticks :)

If you had a choice to rename it.. any other suggestions?.. (just for the heck of it).

Name does not have to be funny or amusing, but something original befitting the tourney.. (i like the 'Frozen Four' name tourney has now..just probing other opinions). thanks

Several years back, the NCAA forbid college hockey from using the name Final Four. They had to come up with a new name and this was it. I think it's kind of ugly, but they had to call it something.

I didn't like it at first (was 99 the first year they used it?), but its definitely grown on me and stuck, and I think its just fine. People as "hey, are you going to the Frozen this year" we know what they're talking about... It's simple and it works as far as I'm concerned...

..i always wondered where the name came from. And if we (as fans), were ever allowed a chance to vote on it.

There's tons of names out there.. Icebreaker tourney, IceBerg classic.. etc.. i know the college hockey fraternity could (would), have come up with something unique.. more importantly.. original.

My only guess we went with our BB friends due the 'catchiness'/ proximity to their own tourney, i don't know.. it does help ratings when the other name (Final Four), is splashed so much in the media around the same time. Its here to stay & like Swami echoed yesterday.. it works! :)

I'm glad we've cleared this up.

Now can we discuss why the Regionals aren't held in Las Vegas every year?

western in vegas. eastern in new orleans.

fozen four :p

i worked with a coop from nu one year who told us that hurricanes were named after the weatherman who first spotted it. :eek: this is almost 'strike two':D
