NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Status

Re: NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Sta

If they Join the SUNYAC they would be paired up with Oswego and then Cortland would be with Morrisville. there is the ECAC West Factor...if they join down their, with the addition of Nazareth the ECAC West would get an automatic bid into NCAAs . Talkong with the AD at SUNY CAnton they are open to all options...it is far from a done deal. even a thought of going ECAC East or NE-10...they feel they can capmpete woth the D-II teams alot more at this time.

While they might be more competitive in the NE-10 that won't do them any favors on being able to compete for the NCAA's.

Re: NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Sta

Forgive me for being obtuse, but aren't schools in the NE-10 members of Division II?

Correct. But maybe they can take an associate member for one sport that is a different division? I'm not sure.

Holy Cross is Division I and plays in the D-III ECAC East on the women's side.

BUT, trying to be a competative DIII school, this would really NOT be a good choice. They would really go nowhere fast.

I agree 110 percent.

That's why I said the thing about NCAA's.

If they want to compete they've gotta go SUNY or one of the ECAC leagues.

And NONE of the games vs. the NE-10 would count for selection purposes.

Do I have to send my Godson up to your office to throw some cold water on you?

Hoever, this could be an option during their "purgatory" years (I'm Protestant, not Catholic, so maybe this terminology doesn't fit). Until they complete their probationary period, they aren't eligible for post-season anyway, and games against them wouldn't count for selection purposes for their opponents. That would be a natural for them to play games that don't count against teams that don't count. Now once their transition period is over, it would be dumb. But for the next four years, maybe not.

Actually didn't they change it so all games against opponents from other classifications now count as secondary criteria effective the 2013-2014 season, so games against them would count

Secondary Criteria
• All contests against opponents from other
classifications (Division I, Division II, NAIA,
provisional members)

Re: NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Sta

But only as secondary criteria - just like playing a DII team - like teams in the NE-10, so they might as well join the NE 10 for a while.

Yes, I have. Now they are growing up, going to Alaska next week for their 7th Birthdays. They are still fun, and it is no less intense taking care of them. Enjoy them!

Morrisville didn't have to wait that long.

Re: NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Sta

Apparently because of the SUNYAC bylaws they can't go anywhere very fast anyways as SUNYAC bylaws state that schools wanting to become members of the SUNYAC must at least be an ACTIVE member of NCAA Div. III before they can even apply for membership. So that puts the timetable at 6 years before they can even apply to be in the SUNYAC. Then I believe the bylaws state it is another 2 years before they would be able to even play in a playoff game. So that is 8 years before they can even play for a chance to play in a playoff game. So where exactly should they go? Would they really be a good fit in the ECAC West where the schools can give just up any type of financial aid. I would say that if SUNY Canton's administration would be allowed to give kids the same amount of financial aid that Elmira, Utica, Neumann, and Manhattanville were giving then maybe but I still say I don't understand why Skidmore is in the ECAC East and not in the West?

Skidmore's average NCAA travel distance to ECAC East teams is actually slightly shorter: about 15 miles' difference now that Nazareth is in the mix.

Re: NCAA Division III Membership Committee Recommends SUNY Canton for Provisional Sta

Morrisville didn't have to wait that long.

SUNY Morrisville won the 2006 NJCAA Ice Hockey Championship and competed in the NCAA in 2006-07 and qualified to compete in the 2008-09 SUNYAC Championships.

so then Canton shouldn't have to wait 6 years..... they've been playing NJCAA for a long time, with the exception of the last year or 2

The only issue should be how the SUNYAC will deal with the last two years of their provisional status when games can count. Mo'ville would be the precedentK
