NCAA 1st Round - Wentworth @ Plymouth State

Re: NCAA 1st Round - Wentworth @ Plymouth State

I have watched quite a few Plymouth games on their webcast this year and they are a pretty solid team. Kyle Greco and Jack Astedt can really make a difference in a game when they are on. They aren't that big but they are pretty quick and they play hard. I don't know if it means anything but they have played 14 games on a weeknight this season, so they are used to the midweek games.

Wentworth looks to be a bit bigger and stronger and they are on a pretty long winning streak at the moment. They are also showing some of that potential that they have had for a few seasons now. They beat Plymouth in their two regular season meetings but we all know how tough it can be to beat a team three times in one season.

I am going to go with the Panthers for the win because I think Greco, Astedt and the home crowd will push them over the top.

In reference to Plymouth hockey can anyone tell me if the Plymouth Area High School is considering picking up hockey as another sport. With the PSU rink coupled with the NCAA bid you would think there would a lot of interest in hockey in Plymouth. Also are youth hockey leagues forming with the new rink in town??

I know Holderness school is only 1/2 mile away so have they used the rink for big games or tournaments. The campus is not one of the better prep school rinks.

The big issue in the area which seems to be a growing issue in hockey itself is the cost of Ice Hockey compared to other sports. Plymouth and the White Mountain region isn't a very wealthy area (the people that live there year round that is) so, the cost can be tough on a lot of familys. That said they do have a youth program based out of the rink now and the University has done a good job promoting the team not only to the campus, but to the town and surrounding towns as well so, it wouldn't surprise me in 5 years or so if Plymouth High School started their own team.

As for the game these two teams played essentially identical games last year down at Matthews and skated to two straight 2-2 ties. This year Plymouth had some guys out with either injuries or behavioral issues in their first games back after the break and played with a lackluster effort in front of an empty barn. I wouldn't expect either of those to happen tonight. Should be a great game and atmosphere, but in my opinion this is a coin flip. That said I'll take the Panthers :D

Out of curiosity, how is the rink for temperature and creature comforts like, oh lets say-snacks??

Coffee is more expensive than a pretzel? Must not be a very good pretzel...
