NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Totally lost interest in basketball after last night. I think a foul was called on every play. No thanks. I dont want to watch 4 hours of crap.

It's where amazing happens! After forty-two fouls (half of which were crap), an equal number of crap non-calls, sixty-seven timeouts, and a break for tea sometime in the 3rd quarter.

Couldn't agree more. I can't remember a playoff win that was more brutal to watch. Just terrible.

And it wasn't completely one sided. There were a bunch of stupid whistles that went against L.A. But that didn't make it any easier to watch.

Glad I didnt watch the game :D

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

I can watch for about 1 quarter before I get disgusted. At least Boston(rondo and allen anyway) showed some heart. Pierce and Garnett sucked, Garnett I'm not shocked at, he's sucked all year so... Gasol and Bynum, think about that, Gasol and Bynum killed the Celts.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Great to see Rondo take charge at the end. This is his series. I don't think the Lakers can stop him without killing themselves elsewhere (like not being able to guard Allen). Furthermore Bryant is going to keep getting in foul trouble if he has to chase Rondo around all day.

Seems to me the Celtics can beat the Lakers with 2 out of the Big 4 playing well. That's pretty good. I'm not worried about Pierce as he always bounces back. We do need a big game or two out of Garnett though. He and Perkins have been terrible. First time I've ever wanted to see Wallace out there instead. Get one of those guys going and the Lakers are screwed as there's too many options for them to defend. What's worrying me the most is the problems on the defensive end with those two guys. Shouldn't be getting lit up by a guy playing on one leg. On offense, Rondo doesn't seem to have too much trouble blowing right by these guys for layups, so how 'bout some O as well KG?

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Tonight's officials: Bennett Salvatore, Bill Kennedy, and Dan Crawford.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

A lot of fouls works for the Celtics as long as they call them on both sides. For big men, the Celts have 20 fouls to give before they foul out in Garnett-Perkins-Davis-Wallace. The Lakers only have 15 with Gasol-Bynam-Odom. If I were Doc Rivers, I'd put Big Baby and Wallace in there to start the game when the refs are whistle happy and need to get in their quota. Then I'd bring the starters in once that initial wave of ticky-tack calls was done. :D

Seriously though, the Celts have a bit deeper bench so if its called even they ought to benefit somewhat. As long as Rondo and Allen aren't in foul trouble that is. Its sorta like do the Lakers really care if Fisher gets a bunch of calls on him? Probably not, but if it happens to Kobe I can't wait to see the conspiracy theories. ;)

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

A Boston Garden intro video that doesn't include the voice of Johnny Most is like a GOP convention that ignores Abraham Lincoln. Ugh.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Rondo looked like a Harlem Globetrotter out there and Breen says, "Good ball movement."

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

**** Salvatore. Perkins was set.

And now a phantom foul on Rondo. We are in trouble with these refs tonight.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

What can you say? They played great the first 6-8 minutes and then they turned into the team we watched the last two-thirds of the season.

Assuming they lose tonight, they'll have done so because they lost the first quarter -- and for three reasons:

(1) Pierce and Allen missed wide open looks early and killed us in the process.
(2) The refs turned the game with 3-4 phantom calls that all went against Boston, putting LA in the bonus quickly for no reason whatsoever.
(3) The Celtics quit playing defense and gave up five points in the final 30 seconds of the quarter.

They came out with great energy, Garnett was resurrected, Rondo was his usual amazing self, and yet they trailed by nine after a quarter. That was a killer.

Things look bleak right now.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Gad, they close out every quarter against LA like some men's league team down at the local gym. In their first three rounds, they'd been great in the last 45 seconds of a quarter.

Re: NBA 2009-2010: More ref complaints

Simmons is calling the Celts' end-of-quarter offense the Clogged Toilet. He hasn't been so on the nose since his "Now I Can Die In Peace" column following SB XXXVI.
