National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Sadly I'd have to think Minnesota has more homegrown fans as Minneapolis and St. Paul combined have roughly 10x more people than Grand Forks does. Which of course makes it all the more impressive that UND has more Homegrown Talent.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Quite possibly the dumbest argument ever, even for a Mon-Tues.
Those cities are part of the metro area but they are not Minneapolis or St. Paul, so Minnesota has no homegrown talent. It's really not that difficult to grasp.

UND: Homegrown Pride on Ice

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

So... what have I missed? Looks like we're still going over the exact same thing. So apparently I didn't miss much.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

We already figured this out. Using the Gopher definition, everyone in the world is homegrown.

Hitler...Homegrown Gopher fan
Stalin?...Spelling out Minnesota while sending his Gopher kin to the Goulag.
The list goes on and on...:p:D:D

Englestad...uses staple gun bought in Moorhead to put up Stalin and Hitler posters. This list DOES go on and on.:D

Your joking that North Dakota has more homegrown talent than Minnesota right? I'm sure you are but just in case... If you were to check the rosters from UNDs last two national championship teams you would find that there are almost twice as many Minnesota native players on the roster than North Dakota natives. This years team has an astonishing 3 players from North Dakota on the roster. Not to mention the fact that half your team is usually 24 year old Canadians. So unless the state of North Dakota has expanded north I wouldn't count that as homegrown talent. Minnesota on the other hand will always have almost the entire roster filled with in state kids. Enjoy the last two days of your season bud because your getting rolled on Thursday.

And another Gopher fan adds his name to the jealousy column of UND's awesome Homegrown Pride of Ice. A brand new Gopher fan even so it obviously doesn't take long for this jealousy to develop. Is this jealousy handed out along with the Goldy Ears when you sign up to become a Gopher fan?

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

I have a co-worker from Omaha that can confirm this. His brother's college roommate went to a few games several seasons ago and he said that the crowds at Gopher games had noticeably more Gopher fans than games against UND had UND fans.

Well that certainly settles the debate.

Unless of course someone's barber has a son in Chicago who went to UNO for school and knew some dude whose girlfriend's brother had a classmate whose dad knew a guy that worked for a another guy who's kid went to a few UNO hockey games and reported that the Sioux fans travelled better.

If that happens, this whole can of worms gets reopened.

Indeed. That said, I did just saw someone on Twitter say that they once took a bus thru Omaha and sat next to a guy who's daughter used to babysit for a couple who's nephew worked with a guy who's dad used to sweep the floors at UNO's arena who said that Gopher fans vastly outnumber UND fans whenever their respective teams play the Mavs in Omaha. So, the picture is getting clearer by the minute :)

unfortunately that doesn't give a breakdown of road game attendance by team. for example, the hockey east site has these numbers. can't compare eastern schools to some of the big western state schools, just using it as an example. bc led the league in average road attendance.

You do realize this conversation couldn't get any further from being serious, right? ;)

i'm bored and come to this thread looking for fireworks!

Hang around, you'll learn a lot about a whole lot of complete crap that you probably didn't want to know anything about :)

For instance, you can't be considered a "homegrown" talent unless you grew up living in the basement of your campus library.
