National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Based on the Rau-Grimaldi discussion, I anticipate Rau will run Grimaldi into the boards getting a major and misconduct and gopher fans will rant about Grimaldi diving as the stretcher bearers carry him off the ice.:o :p

You sure those aren't flipped around?

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

I agree. Gophers have gotten much better at playing a physical, grind type of game as the season has wore on.

The Gophers have gotten good deep in the corners. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of a 'grind' it out kind of game or skill/quickness.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Perhaps you should ask Joseph LaBate how hard Rau hits.

Perhaps you should try to understand what the dig was. Perhaps your retort would actually be relevant to the discussion then. Perhaps.

At least you didn't mention TV contracts, so progress is being made.

Well, at least he had a homegrown retort.

Last day before game day--this thread needs pictures.

Gurth?

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

I kind of agree with him on this point.

However, Minnesota is great on the wall and if they win the wall war it's Minnesota who will be grinding the opposition out. Not the other way around.

Another thing is that North Dakota is less dynamic and more predictable in transitioning out of the zone. That gives gopher forwards the jump on winning the wall war between UND's wingers and the gopher forwards covering those wingers. UND has had a hard time dealing with this all year, due to their methodical, keep-it-on-the-perimeter transition game. I don't think UND's forwards have the same advantage defending UMinn's breakout. Perhaps that's not true, but you know the Sioux will try to keep this game on the edges and the gophers know that. Not sure UND can make the same assumptions about the gophers.

I got your dig. It was in regards to Rau's reputation for taking dives.

But if you read his original comment, it also referred to Rau blowing up Grimaldi.

If you think the opposite of that is more likely to be true, you might want to check out that link I posted.

EDIT: TV Contract .... Ooooohhh :p

If UND controls the neutral zone the way they did in Cincy, they are going to make it mighty tough for the Gophers to generate offense. Getting thru the neutral zone without turning the puck over is my biggest fear to be honest.

So you knew what I was getting at and yet you still used your response to link a Gopher highlight video that really had nothing to do with any of it?

You should just go back to the JDUBBS sign on as you're new identity is struggling to keep him under wraps. Stop fighting it - set Dubbie free!

You're probably right in that it has a lot to do with their team speed paying dividends. I've just noticed that some of the freshman (most notably Cammy) have become a lot more effective (key word being "more") with their fore checking as the season has worn on.

Had plenty to do with it.

Your Reply:

Key is you said "those", meaning you implied Grimaldi would be the one running Rau AND Rau would be doing the diving.

Rau has a history of playing much bigger than his stature, and that play was a prime (and classic) example. So yes, posting video of the play where Rau blows up LeBate helps show precident that Rau more often does the hitting then getting hit, and therefore has something "to do with it".

Not going to lie and say that posting a video of a Badger player getting lit up didn't bring me any enjoyment though either ;)

Hate to interrupt, but last year, there was one CT "homegrown" player in the finals, and he may have rented an apartment for a few months for that status. We steal them from wherever we can!

Unless he grew up in the basement of the campus library, he wasn't homegrown :p

Agreed. He came in with high expectations...but has had a few bumps getting into the college game. But he will be a high flyer in the years to come.

Edit: I guess its the big day.

Hopefully, this will be a good game. A little different from years past, when both teams were willing to engage in racehorse hockey. UND definitely does not want that tonight.

Go donkey hockey.
