NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

CHG, both Rocky Mountain Storm teams down in Burlington this past weekend looked at this as a true Showcase tournament, splitting goalies playing time and rolling all 4 lines throughout their games regardless of whether they were on the PK or PP. Neither coaching staff considered winning all that important...only making sure that all the girls had equal playing times in order to showcase their talents. Can`t say that for all the teams however...some people just don`t get it...

You can say that for the Minnesota Icecats. They rolled all 3+ lines equally and played both goalies equally. I think they had an advantage over some of the teams that only had 2 lines of forwards and defense. I think the Icecats just wore them down.

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

The last roll up recruit roll up for 2011-2012 from Hux would say MN girls are continuing to be in demand:

U.S. 38: Minnesota 22; Massachusetts 4; Connecticut, and New Hampshire 2 each;
Alaska, California, Florida, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Vermont 1 each

Canada 4: BC 1; Ontario 2; Quebec 1
.

If you are starting comparisons like that you should start with full year views. Ontario girls don't get announced until November in most years.
The last two completed recruit years (09-10 and 10-11), Ontario had over 50 D1 recruits each year, well ahead of any other state or region. I have numbers going back to 2005, showing Ontario easily having the largest supply of recruits over the years on an ongoing basis. This is not a knock on the Minnesota programs, but a reflection of the large pool to select from in Ontario, with it's top rated PWHL and IAA club programs supported underneath by a large and extensive grassroots club system. Over 35,000 girls are playing club hockey at the youth levels in Ontario.

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

I understand that none of the Quebec or Ontario teams were there but weren't some of them at the Chowder Cup and wasn't the winner of that tournament NAHA? .

There were not that many Canadian girls at Chowder. For starters all the U18 and U22 prospects were not there as it conflicted directly with the Canadian camp for those girls in Toronto. So NAHA winning Chowder cup is not at all a reflection of Canadian talent falling behind at that level.

As I said before. Wait until the Can-Am events and Stoney Creek. Those two will give a much better reflection of the perspective talent bases. I will admit that the talent pool in Ontario graduating this year is not as deep as in the last two. However wait until you see the likes of Missy, POE and the Aeros face off against LC, Assabet and NAHA before drawing any conclusions.

Too bad there won't be any Minnesota teams. I would be very interested to see how they would do at these events.

I believe that Rolandelli is a Senior, Mari Mankey is a Junior and Jonna Curtis is a Junior. Also, Leah Johnson is from Chaska and has not committed. Also, Sam LaShomb is reported as being committed to North Dakota on the MN HS forum.

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

Anything positive anyone from the State of Hockey has to say regarding results in this tournament is well warranted and justified and may be repeated as often or as sparingly as they see fit. You could always put Minnesota posters on ignore...but then you would have less material to complain and whine about.

Hey Brooky....ya OLD Trout. Your new tag line is all the material we need. Gawd you are a bugger for punishment...

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

Glad to see this, and glad you pointed it out. The only reason I stepped in there is because of the obvious. We have seen this many times in the past as you know........ You have to put the kids ahead of yourself at all times, because their future is the important thing here. ;)

Well..I'm starting to wonder if this isn't the norm? You can begin to draw a spine through the the thing when you couple it with all the diatribe on the U18, 22 Series thread. Post #165 hints at the dark side of the issue.

Going all out to win by bench shortening, double shifting etc.. in showcase tourneys and what ever they call it...Festivals, I guess... seems to be engrained throughout the system. :(

Re: NAHA Labor/Labour Day Tournament 2010

Well, might be better to wait till they are back on the bus for the return trip on Sunday. (they are very filling) ;)

Turned out our group was stuffed on Sam Adams, Clam Chowder & those little crackers shaped like fish throughout the week anyway. :)

Must share with you however, on our one night off our girls had a unique supper out at the "Breakwater" @ # 1 King Street in Burlington on the shores of Lake Champlain. Not withstanding, the RMS U19's, parents/coaches/fans braved the "Alberta Clipper" that moved in with gale force winds and at times sideways rain. I can tell you the outdoor live band were sure happy to see us! They caught on real quick as they originally had about 6 family and friends in attendance when all of a sudden 30 Canadians moved on to the patio to dance, sing and let loose a little bit... the boy's in the band were overwhelmed by our exuberance and even allowed the girls to play air guitar/drums/keyboard etc. with their instruments while parents snapped memories & keepsake pictures.

In closing they dedicated a few songs to the team & finally delivered a rousing encore in the driving rain.... playing one more ditty when we refused to leave! Really

Bravo Burlington! Once again proving that it's not entirely the event for these young women...but more so the journey. ;)

Guess you had to be there but...It was a beautiful thing.
