My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Hate it, even though they're completely different players. I hate the Cooke signing and will hate it more the first dirtbag move he makes wearing their Wild sweater. If he plays clean I will happily eat crow.

I'm not sure I will ever happily eat crow on this one. I think he has cleaned up his act simply due to the increased enforcement and suspensions. I think he showed his true character when he cheap shotted Marshall and then turtled the next time they played. I think he is, and remains, a dirtbag at heart.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

I think I'll get a Matt Cooke shirsey for ****s and grins. He's Clutterbuck's replacement and I don't see how thats much of a downgrade.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

How do people feel about getting rid of Setoguchi (sp) to sign Cooke?

I thought he was pretty good...

He's streaky, didn;t show much without Cullen who is also gone, and Fletcher said he was expendable with Zucker and Niederreiter as his replacements.
Cooke gives us more than Clutterbuck at this point, especially as a penalty killer.
He also isn't afraid to stick up for teammates which is something that was sorely lacking last year.
Hockey wise it's not a dumb move even if people don't like Cooke personally.
Fletcher and Yeo have experience with him in Pittsburgh so I trust they know what they are doing.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Have to agree with the sentiments on Setogouchi.

I've stated my case with Cooke. Even with the reputation and suspensions he's earned, he's not changed much. I give him two months into the season before he does his first goonish thing, and that's being awfully generous.

Edit: Also, Cooke might have a slight advantage for offensive upside, and is probably more useful for special teams, but to call him a replacement for Cal Clutterbuck is kind of insulting Clutterbuck, don't you think?

Strictly concerning production on the ice, no. Could be an issue with locker room cohesion though. We'll see.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Hawks essentially bring the same team back for next season...

Works for me! :)

Even though I'd still like them to address the #2 center...

Oh well. We've won 2 Cups without one, so what do I (or the rest of the fans) know?

The #2 center is the PC position, just plug-n-play.

Sounds like they will address it internally with either Pirri or LeBlanc.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

After listening to Matt Cooke on KFAN with Russo today, I'll give him a chance. His attitude on possibly wearing Boogard's # and recent penalty history give me hope he can just be a useful pest without being a goon for the Wild.

Certainly what I'm hoping for. Just don't wanna see Handzus and the sled that he pulls around out there on the 2nd.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Wait, hold on, the Leafs gave Clarkson HOW MUCH MONEY? For a 29-year-old thug with one and a half good seasons to his name? No wonder they never win anything.
